Bluelighter
Hi Everyone!!!
I've been reading and posting on bluelight since July last year, and in that time I've spoken to and got to know quite a few bluelighters around the world. Most of you live in the states.
When I first came to bluelight, I had an opinion of the US and their citizens that had been shaped by television and movies - that Americans are loud and brash and arrogant and unknowledgeble of any part of the world outside their 52 states. Since talking to you, and following various debates and polls and conversations, I've realised there is a lot more depth to you and your culture than I imagined. I'm beginning to understand why you come across the way you do and why people like us Aussies have that opinion of your culture.
So, after saying that I will never visit such a commercialised and busy country, I've decided to go and see what all the fuss is about. I want to see how you all live, what your cities and towns and lifestyles are like. I want to experience your dance culture. I want to try your drugs.
But most of all, I want to meet my fellow bluelighters.
On Easter Saturday (April 22) I'm flying out of Sydney straight to LA. Motab has very kindly offered to introduce me to my first American rave that weekend, and hopefully introduce me to the SoCal bluelighters. I'm then doing a 4 week camping tour that goes from LA, through Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Zion NP, Yellowstone, Yosemetie, Seattle, San Franscisco and back to LA. Then my time is my own.
I have questions though.....who lives in Seattle and San Fran? Are there clubs and/or raves there? Should I go back there after my tour?
Then I'm onto Canada...Vancouver, Ottowa, Toronto and maybe Montreal. How many bluelighters are in Canada? I know there's a fairly large Toronto contingent so I'm planning to spend a fair bit of time there. But what about other places?
Basically, I want to see what each of your cities have to offer. I want to see your clubs and your raves and your nightlife. I want to see the parts of your cities that tourists don't see. I'm not interested in tourist attractions at all (I didn't even see Big Ben or Westminster Abbey when I was in London a little while ago) and my thoughts are that bluelighters will be the best people to show me around.
East coast of America....I'm planning about three months down your side of the country after I go through Canada so I'll be getting there probably around early July (where's the best place to be for July 4th?). I need to know where to go there too!! New York, Chicago, Boston, Florida (of course
), and even Raleigh. But I'll get to that part of the country some other time.
Let me know where you live....I don't know where most of you are in the states. I need to know so I can plan my trip!!!
I'm so excited!!! I can't wait to meet you all. Please post any info here...or send me an email - [email protected]
