Bluelighter in Desperate Need - PLEASE READ

wow, thats crazy stuff. Johnboy I would really like to help out, but how well does everyone know her. I know it sounds a little untrusting but it could possibly be a get rich quick scheme for all I know. I would just like to know if anyone from Aus has other contacts to know for sure it's true....I hate to sound so blunt but I am serious about sending some cash if it's needed...thanks.

ok... fair enuf i guess... but it would have to be a conspiracy by nearly all the old time Bluelighters... read the threads and do some searching andi'll think you'll realise how serious this is...

Okay Johnboy.. what can we Australian bluelighters do to help.
I can certainly afford $20 to help Amina out but by the time it was converted to us dollars and bank fees had been taken out there wouldn't be much of it left.
Are you able to organise something from your end ...
say an account that we can all deposit our $20 into and then, when there is a reasonable sum, organise a bank draft in us dollars to be sent to the account that bill has set up?
Would this be feasible?
I think many people may have the same concerns as Motoman, however if they received reassurance from you that Amina's case is genuine then I'm sure they would offer financial assistance more freely.

Great idea Finn, couldn't be too hard to work something out. Yeah I was thinking I could only afford about $25 and that works out to about $14 U.S., it's better than nothing though.

I can vouch for the 'real-ness' of this Bluelighter's cause. Apples met Writnpage when she partied with the SoCal crew and spoke extremely highly of her.
I *am* curious to know what happened though..
"arrested last Thursday on domestic and INS charges due to a freak chain of events."
Can anyone explain what this means?

there's a link to a paypal account in that post. go to http://www.paypal.com/ and enter the email address [email protected]
and no there wouldn't be much left from twenty pissweak oz dollars... this is just a general call for help, if anyone can...
idon't know much morethan whathas been posted. i'm sure it is being dicussed in the chat room.

I might be just dumb or something, but that paypal.com thing is shit, I can't figure out how to do it. I go to send money and there is no box to put an email address in, but then is says you don't have to register!! Anyone figured it out?

hmmm it appears to be an american only thing. typical.
leave it with me, i'll work something out.
it seems about a grand has been raised so far which might be enuf to at least get an attorney on retainer.

paypal is an american only thing, and it also isnt really designed to just send money to poeple. It is meant to be used to coincide with EBAY, so when you buy something in an online auction you can pay instantly through paypal and they can then send you the item. Basically so everything gets done quicker. I could be wrong, but it would be completely useless to send money this way.
I have used a similar one before that accepts australian money and there were ridiciulous fees. Basically I was sent $50 US dollars, the sender had to pay an extra $5US to send it, then when it arrived as a money order i had to take another $15AU dollars just to cash it. !!! pathetic.

well there is still the postal address that was given in the first post:
Bill MacLeod
1007F Waltham Road
Simi Valley, CA 93065
sending money (US dollars i guess) by registered mail will guarentee that it all gets there and no one is taking a fee...

Banks sometimes have u.s. dollars in cash (american tourists have to exchange em somewhere!)
Perhaps you could mosey down to your local bank (if there's one left in your suburb!) and buy a small amount of us currency. You could then pop it in the mail to the address above. Hopefully no-one will bother pinching it because it is such a small amount.
I might give it a go. You'll probably have better luck with a bank that is in a more touristy part of town.

Alrite, dun ask me for a logical explanation.
But back then when i was involved in some charity work, the local priest used to send american money to his contact by wrapping it in carbon paper.
Seems like is a better way t0 disguise the fact tat you are sending money.
Just a suggestion!
E Bee..any ideas?? or anyone who works in the postal service?

I mail large amounts of money very often, just wrap up the envelopes in sticky tape so it's difficult to open them, and make sure the notes are flat (straight from bank) and put in inside papare folded up as if it were a letter. I'm finding money as we speak, even if you can only find 5 dollars please mail it. every small bit counts!!!!

I have heard stories of parcels to the US going astray, but never letters. Hide the cash well and stick some childish stickers on the outside so it looks like a kid's penpal or something

Air mail to the US is a bit slow though (7-10 days, compared to about 4 days to the UK), but I'm sure it'll still be needed by then.
You could send it in a registered envelope if you want, but it'll cost you an extra $7.90...which on top of the bad exchange rate and currency exchange fees is getting a bit expensive.
The cheapest option might be to get a Western Union US$ money order from Australia Post, which will cost you $8.65. You'll save on currency exchange fees and registered post (it has to be deposited into a bank account like a cheque, so there's not much point in stealing it).
If you can get a group of bluelighters in your city to pool their donations, you could send it all in one money order and save on fees/postage. I don't know how much (if any) they have to pay to bank it over there, so sending a few money orders with as much $ as possible wuold be better than a whole heap of low denomination ones.
If anyone is going to a meetup this weekend, hold a whip-round (ask everyone when they're rolling, they'll be even more generous then
