syymphonatic

it looked so still and desolate just like it feels late at night sometimes.

Godamit, this is hard.........I think the hardest one I have had to choose.

I went for Squirt in the end, I sort of felt like I was there following those two people.

Iamthoughts was cool as well.....well der it was snowing......lol

L2R and symphonatic were the others i really liked.

MazDan's really captured the theme of "night" the best. Well done, sir.

BA... mainly for content, but the photography is excellent as well

oh btw - the kid's head in my pic, he ate 7 hits of acid and 2 e pills and was staring at that flame like WHOOOOAAAAAAAAA! so that makes my pic all the more cewl.

beautiful round by every single entrant.

@lterego scored it for me.
tightly behind are iamthoughts and squirt

Wow I might even score a second..........thanks everyone.

Its fuinny isnt it cos I never expected it to do much good..........I have had pics in some of the others and thought, this is a dead set winner and havent got a single vote.........lol.........go figure.

I actually tossed up between about 4 different night shots and in the end just tossed a coin........that won.

I will post my others later to see what you guys would have picked.

Sigh, I wish I hadn't said I altered the colors of my photo, because checking the source, I didn't at all :(

I voted Iamthoughts, but it pretty much came down to me missing snow between his and yours. Both are very well framed with great lines and an interesting subject (mmm snow) (mmm bird of prey).

Aesthetically, I think yours is better...the bell curve slice of sky bisected wonderfully by the largest branch, that's great, and you've balanced light and dark very well, and there's a neat winged goodie in the center. Hawks are a bitch to get in flight :P

Mazdan's.

Johny1's came a close second. Composition was ever-so-slightly off. @lterego's and BA's a worthy third.

Good round.

And thanks to the sympathetic blind person who voted for me! :D

I concur on all counts

Wow, when it comes to technical skill, @alterego's is amazing.

The focus is 2/3 up, dead center, and the multitude of diaganol lines that form intricate symmetries...it'd take a paragraph to describe them all. That must have taken a lot of framing/cropping effort/skill.

Dont wanna burst your bubble man............but you see way to much in a simple picture.

There is no frame..........its just a simple pic.

What on earth is a bell curve slice of sky?..........its just sky man.

What hawk? man you gotta ease up on them drugs.........seriously.

Actually on a more serious note, I find your comments eerily support some claims i made about art recently where I tried to explain that people read all this stuff into paintings thats just not there.

Honestly, its just a pic taken with a basic camera sitting on my car bonnet being propped up with a stick and the lens thing stuck open for 10 secs.

Im not the messiah, Im a very naughty boy.

I'm sure you know the "rule of thirds", I've put it on your photo in purple.

Diagonal lines a important as well, I've put them on there in red, and a nice yellow circle at the center.

See you don't want your subject in the dead center, you want it ideally to fall on the intersections of the purple lines...n thirds. Your bird's pretty close (I put a green dot on him).

Likewise, you don't necessarily want your diagonals to be perfect diagonals...you've got a very powerful line in the tree trunk that splits the image in two, and two side branches breaking off very symmetrically, as if you're telling people to look, look at that hawk.

Furthermore, the light/dark dichotomy is as perfect as you could hope for.....the shot is perfectly balanced and in a very interesting way.

Intentional or not, you did well. You don't have to intend meaning in art to imply it.

haha, Aidan, thanks for that........lol.

I should point out that there is no hawk........its the continuation of the branch on the other side of the moon.
