Bluelight Should Have a Psychology Forum

Don't you think? For a forum focused on harm-reduction of substance use (particularly mind-altering substances), the topic of "psychology" itself is pretty inherent.

However, there doesn't seem to be a forum here at Bluelight focused on just psychology. For example, if a poster wanted to make a topic on Jungian analysis, where would they post such a topic? It's not drug-related so it doesn't fit into any of the drug forums; some other forums that come to mind would be Philosophy & Spirituality, Drug Culture, and Science and Technology, but the topic of Jungian analysis doesn't really fit in to any of those.

Maybe a psychology forum hasn't been created because the end result probably wouldn't turn out good? I suppose, at the end of the day, the discussion of psychology rarely leads to any accurate conclusions, and usually isn't very meaningful. Any statements made about the mechanics of the mind lead to the assumption that the human mind is pragmatic and systemized - often leading to the "Sigmund Freud" effect where sweeping generalizations are made that are without method and brimming with inconsistencies/contradictions. Perhaps the human mind is pragmatic and systemized, but is at such a level of complexity that it is for all practical purposes ambiguous and anomalous, and any attempt to make structured theories about it ends up being an embarrassment. Well, better move on before this turns into a topic within a topic (perhaps we could expand on the topic in a newly-created psychology forum, no?).

However, it still remains that psychology is pretty inherent when it comes to the discussion of drugs -- it also shows that many of the posters here at bluelight have a keen interest in psychology, as is evident by their journalistic "taking field notes" approach to reporting drug experiences (I suppose though that any topics regarding psychology and drugs in this manner would fit under "Trip Reports")

Perhaps there isn't a psychology forum simply because no one has proposed one yet.

I definitely think there is a population of posters here at Bluelight who are fans of guys like Carl Jung, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer, etc.. and just psychology in general; but there really isn't anywhere good to talk about psychology. There are other forums on the internet dedicated to psychology and philosophy, but they all lack the objectivity and posterity which Bluelight is blessed with -- and personally this makes me think that Bluelight would be the perfect home for a psychology forum.

For harm reduction while using psychedelics, a good understanding of psychology is essential to understanding a healthy set and setting. Personally I feel as though experimentation with psychedelics are an amazing opportunity to analyze ourselves.

I and several other mods brought up the idea of a psychiatry/non-psychoactive drug subforum a couple months ago and it got shot down. One of the reasons that was brought up is that anywhere you have free knowledgable advice on the Internet agressively desperate people flock. I personally have had several individuals try and track down my IRL info so I could be a personal councillor to them which was disturbing.

However, I still feel it would be a good idea given the nature of this site, a quick look into ADD or TDS reveals a large number of threads that could better fit into this category.

I totally agree; and not only do they provide an opportunity for learning more about our own mind and self, but for most people they give a healthy appreciation for life for weeks/months/years after the experience. Makes me wonder why its 2013 and psychedelics are still illegal, but I suppose the entire population can't be tripping on acid all hours of the day.. and I actually don't think that this generation of young adults is even prepared for psychedelics to be made legal - this might be the most irresponsible, gullible, docile, misguided generation to have ever existed.

Can any of you throw out some threads that you think would fit into that forum?

This is just from the first few pages of ADD, there were a lot more before we aggressively started moving/deleting them

I have sort of had this theory for a while: the '08 Facebook boom brought a surge of new people to the internet (particularly discussion forum environments), such that discussion forums across the internet are now populated by everybody and not just connoisseurs/hobbyists/experts anymore.. This is, evidently, dumping a workload onto people like forum moderators..

Anyways, I was thinking that a psychology forum would be for psychology in a broader, philosophical sense with no particular orientation or purpose. As for coaching people with personal issues, that's not entirely feasible in a text-based communication environment in my opinion, and it's too much of a responsibility/liability - especially if there were a flood of people seeking personal coaching (which it appears there already is).

I'd be up for more of a non-recreational drug discussion forum period, there are tons of valid topics such as diabetes, HIV meds, and mood stabilizers. Would anyone else like to see a forum like that even on a trial basis? I'd just like to mention that this would NOT be a mental health forum but rather an "other medications" forum.
