Blood Circulation issues due to Adderal?

Ive been taking adderall on and off for about 1.5 years and im begging to notice some unpleasant side effects while on it. My usual dosage is around 10-30mg and my tolerance is quite low. So for about the past 6 months Ive been experiencing negative effects while taking it, which include extremely cold hands and feet, and my feet start sweat alot even though they are cold....which in turn makes my socks cold/wet and it fucking sucks the big one. Ive been getting to the point where im always using a heating pad to warm up my hands and feet, especially during the winter times. Also when I take adderall I have to piss ALOT. Now I don't know if that's due to the fact that im drinking so much water while im on it, but I will literally drink a glass of water and feel like I have to piss ten mins later, then I repeat. My pee is usually never yellow so i dont think im dehydrated but it kind of makes me concerned about my kidneys. Has anyone had this happen to them while using amphetamines? Or does anyone have any suggestions on what mite be causing this?

It can be from low blood pressure (hypotension) caused by the adderall. What you are describing is how I feel when I take clonidine, which lowers blood pressure. At first I thought it might be from vasconstriction caused by amphetamines, but that would actually lead to your extremities feeling warmer.

I don't know how exactly the adderall causes hypontension, as it can also cause hypertension which seems easier to understand.

^ Vasoconstriction does cause cold extremeties, no? Vasodilation makes you feel hot, eg after alcohol - cheeks flushing/hot and the famous "beer blanket".. where as vasoconstriction makes you feel cold. For example, one of the ways to check for chronic poor blood flow for to limb is to check for cold, pallor, paraesthesia, lack of pulses etc..

The reason you feel like this when you are hypotensive, Tommy, is because your peripheries aren't well perfused - the same end effect as if vasoconstrictio was going on. Blood brings warmth; lack of it causes coldness. That's why we go red when we are hot - blood rushing to the surface, trying to take the heat away from the body and lose it into the atmosphere; when we are cold we go pale as blood stays deep inside us, preserving the warmth (note - this is a tad over simplified, hehe)

I'm not sure why Adderall would cause hypotension (doesn't mean it wouldn't, I just can't think of a mechanism :) )

OP - is your Adderall prescribed? If so, discuss this with your doctor. If not, your best bet is to take less Adderall. In theory an alpha-blocker might help but this would have it's own set of side effects and would also probably block the effects you get from the Adderall and isn't really something that should be done outside a clinical setting. It's not a good idea to try to treat your vasoconstriction yourself.

About the peeing more thing - Adderall is a diuretic, along with all stumilants. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids and you will be fine - your kidneys are working well (as shown by the fact that they are ablw to produce so much urine)

That's what I had originally thought. I think that the person may feel their hands are warm internally since heat is being retained from lack of circulation, but on the surface they feel cold since this heat in not being radiated, so other people may notice this easier when checking them.

Hmm, that's really interesting actually, the difference between the subject's perception of cold and someone else touching the limb and percieving it as cold.

I still feel that vasoconstriction resulting in less blood flow will feel cold to both subject and examiner. Heat may be retained for a short while because of the lack of bloodflow close to the surface, but ultimately the blood within the hands will drain away and not be sufficiently replaced due to the vasoconstcition, so that internal heat will be lost.. and overall metabolism will be slowed due to reduced oxygen demand, resulting in less thermogenesis.

This is more complex than it first looked though Tommy! I love physiology :D

You have Raynaud's Syndrome my friend..! ..and any amphetamines, caffeine, and sudafed will cause vasoconstriction and make your Raynaud's that much worse :( Your going to have to cut back big time, or stop all together ..unless you can handle all the side effects.?

^ Haha I agree it's a little rash to say the least to diagnose something like that over the internet! If you only get the problem on amphetamines I seriously doubt it is Raynaud's. Of course, if you are concerned, get yourself checked out by a doctor etc.. but this does nt sound like Raynaud's to me from what you have told us. Not that we could diagnose you either way over the internet..

Did not mean to come across as a know it ALL..! ..but I have Raynaud's Syndrome myself, and when I am on amphetamines I get the same effects. Just trying to help out, and maybe talk you into getting it diagnosed. They run a few test, only takes about an hour, and you will know before you leave. You may have a very mild form of Raynaud's Syndrome like me that only acts up under certain conditions. There are meds you can take that will help with the side effects you are getting from your adderall. One great med is Cardizem. It is a Vasodilator, and most meds for Raynaud's are calcium channel blockers.

Sorry for my lack of info before. Hope this post helps you out a bit more. You can pm me if you have any mote questions. I will be more than happy to answer M8 :)

Cheers

^ ahh okay :) fair enough! I think a lot of people without Raynauds also get those symptoms on amphetamines, but you are right, a mild form might only manifest under certain conditions and it would certainly be worthwhile the OP getting themself checked out by their doctor. Sorry if I was a little hasty, there are a lot of people who diagnose all sorts on the internet without really knowing what they are talking about, and internet diagnoses are always dodgy.. but I apologise, if he has the same symptoms as you then you are quite right, he should get it investigated :)

Cold hands and feet - check.
Sweaty hands and wet socks - check.
Pissing every 5 god damn minutes - check.

Honestly, sounds like a day on amphetamine to me man. I wouldn't worry too much, I experience all those everytime I take Vyvanse.

^^^^ hhahaahahahah yeah..THAT'S ME. As far as the Raynuads sydrome is concerned I will deff mention it to my doc, although I really dont think I have it. And sorry for the sarcastic "thanks doc" response I gave ya haha I didn't know if you were being serious or not.

Its all good :) After all, I did not explain myself well in my first post, and internet diagnoses are always dodgy.! So yes I had that coming, and should know better. So yes, please mention to your doc.! Always good to be safe than sorry, cause if your blood circulation gets too cold in your hands, or feet then by the time it reaches your heart again the cold blood can cause a heart attack..! ..no bull :(

Take some extended release niacin. It will help ease vasoconstriction by opening up those vessels. You might flush, you might not.

You have to get regular niacin. Not flush free niacin. There is a difference.

I hope this helps you. It doesn't mean you need to stop, it just means you are more sensitive to vasoconstriction.

Take the niacin only after you amp dosage. You don't have to take it all the time.

Raynauds syndrome is extremely rare and if you had it you would know! Your fingers will turn a DEEP purple or even extremely white.

I have poor circulation as well and get these symptoms. Its a genetic thing, but you could try some B complex vitamins to help with your cardiovascular system.
Try excersizing in the morning for a few minutes just to get your blood going.

And about peeing, its like when you drink coffee, I am pretty sure that amphetamines are diuretics so its normal for water to shoot right through u

Iron supplements will also help with "cold hands" - low-level anemia (something I also am / have) will cause circulation issues because the total amount of oxygen per red blood cell is reduced.

(*Disclaimer - not positive, but from my personal medical history this has been happening / contributes to my poly-symptom crap.)
