okay i just bought an ez-tester and i've only tested Purple Hearts so far. now all i scraped off was a TINY speck (i wasnt sure how much was adequate). anyway, the result was purple. now i ate those same pills last night and they were very WEAK. i realize that the ez-tester cannot indicate the amount of mdma in the pill, but is a black result better than a purple? i'm new to this! advice please

What I've experienced is that yeah sometimes it is but you cannot really tell usually the faster it turns from purple to black the better but it all depends on if the pill is coated or whatever

I have rolled many many times and search for the purple results. Luved up is my thing and instant deeeep purple is the key. No black result has knocked me on my ass. There IS something to the color of the reaction.

well you need to realize that chemically there's no difference between the MDMA in different pills. the reason they have different effects is entirely subjective (mood, situation, time since your last dose, the contents and acidity of your stomach, amount of stored serotonin...); it's not something the test can detect. except of course for the amount in the pill which can vary widely.
the rate of a reaction is affected by concentration as well as by the 'order' (the number and ratio of molecules involved). so a small sample will react slower; if you only use a very small amount of reagent, the reaction will go *faster* since in all likelihood the testing reagent is in huge excess and the concentration of sample will be higher.
it's also very possible that the reagent may react with other things in the pill, possibly including impurities from the MDMA synthesis, which may include ketones and, in an extreme example, alkenes (sulfuric acid can add across double bonds yielding diols, which may affect the reaction)
however.. the biggest factor is definitely going to be the size of the pill. obviously a big one will be less concentrated and react slower than the same size scraping from a small one. this is a factor when you eat it too; small or crumbly pills will dissolve and absorb faster than big or hard ones. it's even possible that a poorly made tab (too hard) won't dissolve at all.

Try using a bit more than a tiny tiny spec for your test. Grab yourself one of your keys and scrape with that. It really won't affect your roll.
A black reaction is simply a darker purple reaction. Not a black reaction. Its just the purple goes so dark it looks like black.

May be just a coincidence, but I have noticed that the only 2 MDA pills I have ever tested turned near black and in a very short time, where MDMA pills tended to take a little longer to get that dark and usually start off noticably purple. Like I said, could be coincidence, but I'm gonna keep my eye open to see if that pattern holds true.

Mood and setting play the biggest part of how a pill will make you feel. Hot, cramped, noisy environments are better for me, as well as having an empty stomach.
I have found that suspected MDA pills reacted *quicker* and darker than their MDMA counterparts. This hasnt always held true, but that is what I have found and others that test have also noticed.
