This year, we'll make a new contest to choose the best artist of the year. Hopefully, this competition will be become a yearly thing here in EMD.

The rules:

1 - Each person can nominate up to 5 artists

2 - An artists mush have been released something in 2011 (check Discogs if you want to see when a song was released)

3 - These releases must be electronic (i.e. they must contain a synthesizer at some point in the song)

4 - In order for an artist to go through to the final poll, it must be nominated by at least 2 people

5 - Please include a few youtube links (of tracks released in 2011) to let other people hear your artist's work. A quick explanation would be nice as well.

6 - Only the top 3 nominated artists will enter the poll

7 - THIS NOMINATIONS THREAD WILL CLOSE ON DECEMBER 18th, after which we will have a list of artists which will comprise the final poll (a separate thread will then be created, allowing people to vote for one of these artists)

8 - If you want to change one (or more) of your nominations, you may do so at any point up to December 7th.

Artists that will go forward into the final poll

Ott

The master of psychedelic dub. No sound resembles his. Creative, innovative, surprising, great effects, superb prodcution. Many years Ott was in the shadow of Shpongle that has got much more attention. Now it seems Ott is finally getting the recognition he deserves.

Ott - Adrift In Hilbert Space

Ott - Squirrell and Biscuits

Max Cooper

This guys has released several awesome deep techno/minimal EPs this years. He has also released some crazy live sets which you can download from his soundcloud. :)

Max Cooper - Qualia (Original Mix)

Max Cooper - Echoes Reality (Original Mix)

Max Cooper - Solace (Original Mix)I

P.S. Say "Thank You" to StarOceanHouse for this idea. If you feel the rules need changing, please comment in the social thread. I am open to suggestions. :)

1.Flux Pavillion, Circus Records 2. Downlink, Rottun Records, 3.Doctor P, Circus 4.Datsik, Rottun Rec. 5.Cyberoptics, Play Me Records. Just some Dubstep dudes. I like most all dubstep, d&b, house, and trance.

1. MiM0SA
I saw this guy play live twice at Shambhala and I can safely say that those were the best sets I've ever seen in my life. I like his unique style, often blending elements of dubstep, glitch, rap, mid-tempo breaks and dub. Probably one of my favorite producers.
Last Night In Town
Another Day
ETG
2. nu:tone
Set Me Free is one of my all time favorite songs.. I love nu:tone's deep liquid take on drum & bass. He also really changes things up with the drum patterns- I find his beats are always really unique and funky compared to a lot of stuff in the scene. His brother, Logistics, is also really talented.
Set Me Free
Balaclava
Beatnik
3. Opiuo
I just discovered this guy recently. His tunes always make me wanna get up and dance. Really funky and glitchy..
Robo Booty
Monkey Crunk
Lost Monial
4. Zeds Dead
This duo has covered a little of everything- electro, dubstep, drumstep & drum n bass- and they do it well. Grimey.
White Satin
Pyramid Song
Undah Yuh Skirt

Carbon Based Lifeforms

Ever since releasing their first album Carbon Based Lifeforms have been on my top 5 psychedelic chillout artist list. Their new album "Twentythree" is a great piece of hypnotic and dreamy ambient that really takes you away on a journey to a trancelike state of mind. Carbon Based Lifeforms has showed that you can evolve without choosing the commercial path too many artists in this genre have chosen. The new album surprised me first, but in a positive way.

Carbon Based Lifeforms - Somewhere In Russia

Carbon Based Lifeforms - Held Together By Gravity

Artifact303

Goatrance is not dead. Artifact303 encompasses the transition from old-school goatrance to new-school goatrance like no one else does. While some elements of the past are preserved, new elements are added. The result is splendid. A blend of new and old, sounding both old-school and modern at the same time.

Artifact303 - Close Encounter

Artifact303 - Mysterious Fantasy

I'm still considering adding one artist.

1. Loose Connection. I've been following these guys for the past year. They've really pushed the envelope as far as production goes. This year they've been putting out some quality psytrance:

Loose Connection - Barn Stormer

Loose Connection - Plus 4

They have some other tracks released on the compilation Tested on Animals. I couldn't find the tracks on youtube. but believe me...they are quality.

2. Max Cooper: I think leviticus summed it up nicely. He basically got me back into techno this year.

3. OTT - Cyanoide summed up my sentiments on him.

He's a resident at Futura, him and Teebs put it on. You doof.

Talking about this asura, ya?

Good the deadline was extended, so I got to add the artist that took me most by surprise this year.

Yudhisthira

Dark and light, all blend together. There's a very unique touch to Yudhisthira's sound, it's sometimes hard but with a gentle feel, fantastic melodies and effects. Variety in the tracks, superb production, innovative, what can I say? It's music for the soul and mind. It's more than just musicl. It's a spiritual experience to listen to Yudhistihira both live and at home.

Yudhisthira - City Skapes

Yudhisthira - Weirding Way (also my #1 track of the year)

Yudhisthira - Spiritual Entity

My final nomination, and this artist will go to to the final poll, since it has already been nominated.

Asura

Asura was for me for many years always one of those artists lurking a bit behind, being very good but still not on par with the best. This has changed. Asura has leaped forward with a majestic album with diversity more than I can describe. Majestic, mystic, spiritual, symphonic. Asura's got it all. From the beginning Asura's trademark was blending world music into psychedelic chillout. This hasn't changed, but he does it better now than ever. The Middle Eastern musical influences Asura's always used are now sounding better than ever. Paying homage to one of the biggest of them all, Vangelis, does no bad either. Asura has been influenced by Vangelis, but this is the first time he produces tracks that pays homage to him. It works. That's all I can say.

Choosing a specific track to describe Asura is not possible. He's too diverse. But I guess if you listen through the following tracks you will at least get some kind of picture.

Asura - Crossroads Limiter

Asura - An Talamh
