Ive decided to take a little break from opiates, I am currently taking about 5 Roxicodone 30's a day so 150mg oxycodone daily. I do have legitimate pain but its not like i need to be taking friggin Roxi 30mg for it so its mainly a drug addiction.

I am going to get either Valium or Xanax in a few days and was wondering if I could take therapeutic doses of wither of those to curb the desire for more oxycodone after I stop taking it (my supply is running down).

I also have Soma 350mg so I was thinking I could combine the Soma and benzo to create an opiate like effect that will be strong enough to keep me away from the oxy.

In short, this will not work (especially if you've had this habit for any length of time).

LOL, this is a forum (Healthy Living) for people who kick drugs with EXERCISE, not more drugs.

On a serious note, 150 mg/ day is a pretty decent sized habit. Benzos alone will not likely kill the withdrawal, but they might make it a bit more bearable.

^ Well I don't know about the excercise thing - I kicked all my habits without excercise - but sure, sound advice.

Anyways, for the OP: Benzos will do absolutely nothing to curb your cravings. They WILL help with the anxiety, legs, and insomnia though.

That said, they also lower your inhibitions so you might actually find it more difficult to control your cravings for opiates.

All in all, a good idea if you know how to use benzos responsibly (not an easy task by any measure), but otherwise, no.

If you have a choice of Valium/Diazepam and Xanax/Alprazolam go with the Valium/Diazepam!!!

It has a longer half-life, so is less addicitive then the Xanax and obviously lasts longer so your not redosing as often risking blacking out!

Do a search in the Other Drugs forum about kicking Opiates, you'll find some threads that'll state what things will help you kick the Oxycodone.

Good Luck

yea it'll help with some W/D symptoms but it wont help cravings, basically the only thing that'll help cravings is more opiates, you have to be stronger than the cravings, but trust me the benzos and somas will definetly help with anxiety, insomnia, RLS, muscle pains, and what not, they will help, just not with cravings too much, they will help with the physical whithdrawl, not so much the mental

Because long-term opiate use restricts/prevents natural opiate receptor sites in the PNS/CNS from functioning, replacement therapy is often a helpful solution for addicts. Delta opiate receptors (DORs) are especially integral to controlling anxiety and depression in healthy, drug-free individuals. After opiate use, it takes awhile for those receptors to recover, so it is not an altogether terrible idea to use a benzodiazepine to treat the withdraw symptoms. This is only logical, however, if you are having panic attacks or have become extremely anxious since quitting. If you aren't experiencing anxiety, it's probably a better idea not to switch from one highly addictive substance to another.
Also, benzodiazepine withdraw can cause death. That is far less likely with opiate withdraws.

That's the chemistry of it, and I know it's counterproductive to replace one addiction with another, but I replied to this post because I'm taking clonazepam to function after opiate addiction. And it does work. Until you run out.
