Hi all been on methadone maintenance 70mg for bout 3moths. works great. no relaps other than the occassional benzo like xanax for anxiety to benzo high. anyway lately i've been using the xanax a bit too much lately a few times a week taking doses between 5-10mg. my girl found out and made me choos between her and the xanies of course i choose her but im worried bout the wd from benzos i heard they are the worst. since its only been a few moths should i ever worry or are there some remedies you could hook me up with? I'm afraid you may get a seizure. If you can't get a longer-acting benzo, you can taper with xanax. Explain to your girlfriend (show her this thread) that it's dangerous to stop benzos abrubtly, and that it's way safer and easier to taper off.

As implied by flyhighk, it would be advantageous, but not strictly necessary, to substitute the alprazolam for a longer acting benzodiazepine such as diazepam, making sure to use equivalent doses. In any case, the dose should be gradually reduced so as to avoid seizure.

by a few times a week what do you mean? if you've been taking 5 mg like twice a week I see no problem, but if you took like 6-7-8 mg 4 or 5 times a week then you definitely have a situation.

^Yeah, we need more information. Between the ages of 17-20 I used ~5mgs of xanax at least 2 to 3 times a week and did not feel any withdrawal, or at least any that wasn't masked by my large opiate habit. Keep in mind that everyone is different and that was my individual experience. While you may experience some degree of w/d I think that a seizure is unlikely, that being said I am by no means doctor.

well it kinda varied. at first i was takin 2mg a cpl times a week and that was enough to get me a good benzo buzz. but my tolerance SKYROCKETED quick! I quickly found myself having to take 4mg to get the same feeling and i'd do it 2-3 times a week. i would often go a good 5 days without em tho, so its not like i noticed a dependency. I did feel a lot more irritable and all around shitty and depressed when i didnt have em tho, so i started takin em more often and upping the sodes like crazy. as of late everytime i get my hands on em in a 24 hr period i like to take around 6-12mg. i know thats dangerous epsecially on the dones, but in most cases i dont really feel all that sedated. most ppl barley even notice. i dont slur my words or anythin. i do tend to start to nod when i get bored and nave nothing to concentrate on at all but other than that thats all. hops this info helps.
