Hi can you please move this to other drugs or healthy living or perhaps the dark side? (most probs dark side)

Hi all,

I am about to go through a benzo detox program - fast taper
i'd like to hear about some people's stories about their detox/withdrawal symptoms just so i know what to expect. i have had a few days cold turkey before but with long acting benzos in my system, i am not quite exactly sure what to expect.

the doctors have also mentioned that since i am moving from a short half life benzo (4-6 hour elimination halflife) to diazepam which is somewhere in the 100hour+ that there could be some stabilisation effects.

now i only had a short session with the withdrawal doctor (community free service etc) and i was pretty nervous so i didnt get a chance to ask all these questions

could someone please fill me in?

i will get the full story from the doc the next time - ill prepare some questions, but just would like a heads up.

thanks heaps

understanding why the w/d symptoms occur helps me to a great extent.
in short; your brain has been hard-wired to send and recive signals in a new way-
when this routing is disrupted, or no longer sustained-
the brain begins sending its electric impulses rather fast!
and faster the longer it isnt "corrected" again.
-
when the synapses firing becomes too fast to handle, thats when the 'clinical-tremors' begin.
-

for my-self, i get a feeling of strange and uncomfortable intuition that progresses.
my manner of speaking, ,syntax,,, sent, ence phrasing ,,, becomes divided, chopped ,,, up.
i begin feeling like im bouncing!
lol
and its nasty feeling.

idk, i could go on lol, but its the ssame for me 95% of the time. with others, ive noticed they will have their own chain of symptoms, and way of channeling/expressing/exerting them.

i internalize, some externalize.
too much of either is not good, for yourself or others.
restraining & screaming bloody-murder in side isnt exactly smart, but neither is trying to do a backflip-karate-chop.! or what ever you may happen to pull off...
:-X

i hope you see what i am saying, i honestly do. study about the class of drug, and its affect, understand the sensations you may feel and feel less fear of them; and further more feel less of the sensations due to situational-anxiety.

^do look up info like the Ashton taper protocol and wiki info it is out there and there is lots of it. You will need to learn why you can't drink alcohol and why you must stay away from certain antibiotics. Try benzo.org.uk.

You probably should avoid a fast taper. Faster tapers often mean worse and longer WD's. Go slowly -- give your brain a smaller workload of adjustment at a time please. I CT'd and have been WDing for 14 months. My life got fucked up bad for it.
It's hard to say if your WD's will be bad or what you can expect. bzd WD symptoms vary wildly. I'd say stay away from online benzo support groups if you don't want to hear some horror stories that only scared and stressed me more. The only substances I have been able to tolerate is neurontin, lyrica, and gaba supplements and rarely cannabis. Lots of drugs and herbs and supplements really make me feel shitty. Stay away from caffeine or anything stimulating.
Good Luck, this is the worst WD a person can go through. Remember this too, once you go off, gong back to benzos will never be the same anyway and taking them again will likely make you feel like shit so stick with it. Subsequent WD's for benzos are always worse than the previous. I went into a few milder ones before I finally couldn't take them anymore and that's probably why my WD's were severe. Look up "kindling" on wiki. Unfortunately a slow taper and time are the only things that can save you. Eating well helps too, but nothing can really make the process easier or faster in my experience. Get any sleep you can too.

I would suggest you read the full Ashton Manual and follow the advice. Look at the library of information at http://benzo.org.uk. Don't do a fast taper, you will be risking a much more severe and very long lasting withdrawal. A slow diazepam taper doesn't guarantee you won't have protracted or permanent withdrawal symptoms but it does greatly minimize the risk. You really don't want to end up stuck with severe debilitating neurological symptoms for years after coming off benzos.. trust me from experience it can be worse than anything imaginable. I thought I was taking a short-cut by stopping fast and avoiding a drawn out taper but man was I wrong. Now I live with the possibility of permanently damaged GABA receptor system that there is no known treatment for. Benzos are far more dangerous than most doctors are aware of.

I've only detoxed from benzos in very mild tapper schedules. But if i had to sum up my feelings into one word, i would say: moody. (or even violent).
I mean i even gotten to scare myself a little bit for the way i used to loose my temper all of the sudden for the most meaningless things. I also felt very frustrated, like i couldn't do anything right. l lost willing to do stuff.. And don't forget the 3-hour-sleep nights--
Anyhow, diazepam helps very very much. Keep your head up and fuck any stupid thoughts, that's just the drugs talking!!!

I did actually stop the 10mg a day valium for some and it was not nice to say the least.

I experienced tense muscles everywhere and sweats and psyc I just wanted to die. Every pin drop was magnified several thousand fould.

Hence I am now still with it.
