My dr put me on a librium taper on Wednesday of last week. I felt great for two days. Unfortunately I blew it with Super Bowl weekend etc and drank a lot Friday to sunday. Any way yesterday and today I went back to my taper but it doesn't seem to be as effective. Did I completely ruin my taper by drinking and taking librium? What should I do? Tx.

An inpatient detox would be the best and most successful.
Get it done and start fresh (by this I mean a new "foundation" to work from).

Self medicating could prolong this process for a life-time and it doesn't work for you (as you admitted above).

Good luck and keep us informed.

Hi. Tx. I did inpatient and they screwd my brain. Hence found a good dr to taper me very slow. I'm not drinking ever again - aa etc. my question was can I resume my taper or do I need to updose for a couple days to stable out?

aaah ok, sorry.

What are you tapering from? Librium?
If so then just stick to you normal taper dose.
Don't up the dose - that will screw up your taper.

Drinking again mid taper could definitely have messed it up... I would tell your doctor about the relapse and he might have to set you up on a new taper.

It's important once you begin a taper not to use again, as tough as that is sometimes, which is why it's much easier to do in an inpatient detox facility where you don't have the temptation to drink.

did you drink while taking the librium still? that could mess up the tolerance a bit as librium is a benzo, and benzos and alcohol potentiate each other. just try to stay sober, that is the best medicine there is for withdrawals, as soon they shall pass

Hi. No. I was off alcohol. I just slipped but am back on track. My worry is now that I'm back on the taper I don't feel 100 perc like before my weekend binge. I know alcohol partially works on same receptors but didnt expect this. My question is should I updose for a few days slightly - emphasis on slightly- to get back to baseline then go back to my taper. I can't imagine a few days updose would make me need to taper from that as in detox they load you up for 2 days and taper and its fine. Thoughts?

If your doc set you up on this taper, I would talk to him/her before you go upping any doses or anything like that.

out of all of this, i recommend you just continue to taper as prescribed. if you got totally smashed on sunday, you could still, even though it is now wednesday, be feeling a bit hungover. i know that sounds utterly insane but as a former HEAVY, HEAVY (one handle whiskey per day) drinker, i know that you can feel like total shit for days after an insane binge.
