Benzos Benzo Addiction -- How Long?

I've been prescribed diazepam since late February this year. Max 20 mg per day as required. However, I never take it daily, I save up my dose and splurge on 80 mg or so at a time. However, I have breaks of 5 days or so in between using. If I developed an addiction, wouldn't withdrawal symptoms be present on the days I'm not taking my diazapem? And what sort of withdrawal symptoms would be present from such dosing? I've only been using Valium for the past 4 months; perhaps that's not long enough to render an addiction (I hope).

I developed an addiction through daily use over about 2 months, I was abusing it and taking very large amounts, it was also unprescribed, that addiction has haunted me for the last 8 years.

If you are not taking it daily then you may be ok, although because diazepam has such a long half life taking it every other day or even one in 3 days could still produce a physical dependence, which could lead to extreme rebound anxiety upon quitting. A psychological addiction is a bigger problem, if you begin to depend on diazepam mentally for sleep or anxiety then it can be hard to get used to not being able to use it anymore. I think I've only managed a period of one or two months without using some sort of benzo since I first started diazepam 8 years ago.

you should be fine as long as you have gaps between use, I personally don't find the effects of benzos to be mentally addictive since I don't take them to actually block anxiety or sleep but only for recreational purposes, but if you do feel the need to use them then you should try and cut back.

PS. try and switch up your diazepam for clonazepam or another good benzo with a short(er) half life.

^Like he said, continue to have gaps and you should be all right. If you developed an addiction to the amounts you're taking, withdrawal symptoms you might get would be anxiety/panic, aching, restlesness, insomnia...although of course, with strong benzo addiction w/d symptoms can become extremely serious. Just continue to use sparsely.
