Diet beer belly

what causes beer belly? the carbs or the carbonation?

It's neither, it's the alcohol itself. You'll also get a "beer belly" from wine or spirits.
Alcohol causes pilification (sp?) and muscle wastage, so if you're an alcoholic you end up with your stomach and face being puffy and bloated and your arms and legs being really thin.

If you're a casual drinker and don't have a problem, it is just fat from calories.

Ya but all those carbs can't be helping. I'm not against carbs but beer has a ton doesn't it? Not like you need it on top of food.

Most people who are serious alcoholics stop eating after a while. You're stomach is always full (of liquid), alcohol has plenty of calories, alcohol contains all 7 minerals necessary to contain human life, and you completely lose your appetite.
