Tell Me what about it? Life in danger? Any experiences, liver is inflamed need insight.... Mods please move if necessary not sure where to put it

Hepatic (liver) + itis (inflammation) -> hepatitis. Alcohol and many other things can cause inflammation of the liver. I had elevated liver enzymes once upon a time due to heavy use and not doing CWE. For me cutting out acetaminophen and cutting back other drugs brought it back to normal. If you are still drinking alcohol you are at risk for cirrhosis. The liver can mend itself to a degree, depends on the extent of the damage and how much it is taxed by what is consumed and processed through it. I'd encourage regular lab work. Seriously though your doctor should have explained stuff to you so that wasn't cool of them.

I understand the basics, but wanted more insight. Thank you though explained a good amount. What are the odds for cirrhosis? If I continued to still drink, AH is considered 2nd stage of 4 for liver disease no? Like years I'd have to worry about or months down the line? I was drinking 4pints of vodka a day for about 6months straight, been off for awhile now had a seizure due to withdrawal no DTs luckily though but anyway thanks again for info much appreciated

My bad-the post sounded like doc dropped the diagnosis and hit the door. Basics is as far as I got from my own experience - luckily for me but unfortunately in that I didn't look into info beyond that. I do think even cirrhosis is manageable to a degree and it would take more extensive diagnostics to determine the damage for you anyone personally. It's good that you stopped so congrats on that. Have they done an ultrasound/liver scan or just basic bloodwork to determine your case?

Did your GP refer you to a liver specialist? They can run tests that would help clarify the extent of damage done. I had an ultrasound and liver biopsy and diagnosed with cirrhosis on top of hepatitis c. It can be scary for sure. I've since cleared the hep c with medication and my liver panel is back to normal. But the cirrhosis will always be there and I know I can't ever go back to drinking.

If you're already encountering liver problems due to drinking, I would say it's time to think about cutting back, or even better, quitting. I recommend taking a look at this thread.

I have had an alcohol problem, been in several life-threatening situations because of drinking and even been to rehab. I never had any significant liver problems or pancreatitis, though, probably because my drinking binges didn't last for more than 2 weeks max and there was some time for my body to recover between them.

I'm sorry, but any addiction specialist would tell you that once you've gotten AH, withdrawal seizures or other serious complications from drinking, you've gone way past the point where you could ever return to controlled. or low-risk alcohol use. Alcoholic hepatitis will heal by itself with sobriety, but if drinking is continued, it will almost certainly develop into cirrhosis in a time period of months to a few years. You'd better find some less toxic drug to use if you have to use something.

Like b_d, I recommend that you take part in the discussion in the "Alcoholism Discussion Thread" in the SL subforum.
