BC BLers, advice needed!

Not on a train, sadly.
I am trying to help my parents out. They decided it is best for them to retire in BC. The problem is that they (and I) know next to nothing about BC except that it is beautiful and has better weather than southwestern ON.

My parents are not particularly rich. As such, they avoided looking into Victoria and Vancouver for the most part. Their focus seems to be on the other cities on the Island, such as Nanaimo and Cambell River.

There criteria is somewhat self-contradictory. They want something that is no more than 30mins drive to the ocean, the closer the better, but they also want a place that is affordable to live in, given they are retirees and that that income is rather low.

Any advice you guys can give me would probably be a bunch of help :). I'm asking several sides, but I thought BL might be a good idea as it has a regional forum.

I remember Vancouver's cost of living being somewhat expensive when I was there, but I mean, I probably only spent about a week there. You know, I'm surprised there aren't more BLers who post from BC. THe place is supposedly awash in dope.

However, I can say Vancouver is a lovely city with much to do! I think anyone would be happy to retire around there.

Jammy,

It really is. One of my favorite places (I have only been to NA, seen most of the States and Quebec). It is a beautiful town with lots of nice shops and good people. Close to Montreal too.
