I have recently stumbled across a bottle of atarax, and I am curious if it has any recreational value.... I have checked rxlist, but i didnt really get that much info from it, i see that its a hypnotic, and used for antianxeity, so im assuming that its in the same class as xanax and what not...so if anyone here has had any experience with atarax, or hydroxyzine HCL(the generic name) please let me know....

Actually, it is an antihistamine, so it is in a different class than xanax/valium. Not really recreational, but good for sleeping.

someone correct me if I'm wrong... but isn't Atarax almost exactly the same as Vistaril. And if so, wouldn't it be really good for potentiating opiates, as well as eliminating some of their ill effects (itching, nausea)? I assume PhreeX will be able to give some helpful info on this

Yes, Atarax aka hydroxyzine, an anti-histimine .. it does have some seditive effects, I mean, not in a really fun way such as Xanax or Valium will .. you can also use it to potentiate the effects of opiates as well - it will stop/reduce itching, another plus ..
So is it recreational? No, not in the least.. Does it have some usefull purposes? Yeah, clearly..
