I've been using amphetamine recreationally for maybe 2 years. Most of the time I kept the dose low, around 70-30 mg for a 24 hour period, a few times a month. And there were some periods of months when I would barely use it at all. Maybe 8 or 9 times I pushed the dose higher, around 100 mg or so. Then I abstained for several months, and I can get a good buzz from 10 or 20 mg again.

Does this pattern of use (which is pretty common in my observation) seem high enough to cause any significant neurotoxic damage? Does the fact that I can still get a buzz off 10 or 20 mean my dopamine receptor populations haven't been damaged too much? Should I recommend that my friends who abuse amphetamine like this abstain or cut it down like I did? I haven't noticed any impairment in my day to day functioning, but it's difficult to tell as I was abusing it as a teenager, while my brain was still improving on its own. I do remember reading in a study somewhere that younger rats are more resistant to amphetamine-induced neurotoxic damage.

If it's likely that I did damage myself, what could I do to help my dopaminergic system recover? I was thinking a combination of citicoline and alpha GPC would help bolster my dopamine cell populations through a cholinergic route, thoughts?

Thanks

Plain amphetamine is fairly benign compared to meth/MDMA. Neurotoxicity is a very nebulous concept though so I can't tell you. A rule of thumb of mine is that doses of amphetamine bigger than about 120-150mg are dumb and likely to cause adverse effects including overheating.

If you can still get your work done without amph, and 10-20mg still provides acceptable effects, I don't think you should worry.

Daily or semi-daily usage of >100mg is likely to be very unwise. I would be more worried about the cumulative damage from high blood pressure rather than "neurotoxicity".

Ah okay. So how long and heavily would one have to abuse amphetamine for it to have significant long-term effects on mood and behavior?

And amph never helped me get my work done in the first place xD
