asian at raves

this is just a thought...myself is asian
the raves i been to mostly in oakland and LA, contain lots of asian...yet it seems they are just there for rolling, and looking cool with the glow sticks...myself is there to dance, meet people, and learn the art of raving...and they always hang in the same group of different asian races...also goes with other race...white mostly with white, so on and so forth...
since rave is a place for PLUR why is people still separated? especially in LA asian i feel give off a bad vibe, trying to act hard...i can be wrong, its just what i felt
give me some feed back i want to know how people think on this subject

Its hard to imagine a bad vibe in SF.. its also where I'd imagine the highest consentration of asian people is.
Here in CO, we only get an asian invasion every once in a while, but apperently the lines arent as definatly drawn as in cali.
What we do get though, is a lot of hispanic people at raves here. They dont seem to blend in as well as the asian people. I wonder if there are a lot of hispanic people at raves in so cal? I'd expect there to be, even more so than asians.

I'm not Asian, but a lot of my Asian friends complain about the same thing in Toronto. Seems that a lot of Asians come to parties but just sit in the middle of the dancefloor (not even on the sidelines) which bothers a lot of people (particularly other Asians it seems). I guess people are generally more critical of thier own race. In my highschool there was always tension between Canadian born Asians and new immigrants who don't speak much English. The complaints about Asians in the rave scene just seems to be an extension of this.
 
Yep, i'd have to agree with butterfly on this one... I went to HeavyHitters (4th year aniversary of the Prophecy (in TO)) back in October and there was this group of like 20 asians just standing on the dance floor, everytime someone would dance 2 feet from they they'd all turn around and stare (not a good stare either). I just steered clear of that and danced on the stage (boy do i love being the second center of attention, next to the MC)
 
i'm white, but like 90% of my friends and all of my friends that i go to the clubs with are asian(including my unbelievably cute gf!). Anyway, here in dc the scence is most asian and white. to me theres real good intergration, except sometimes they dress gq (YUCK!!!). i love it when they breakdance; i could never do that!! oh yeah, i like hardly ever see any hispanics. but race is a dumb topic. shouldn't mater!!!
 
I live in the bay area, big mix of different races and nationalities, which is kind of nice..diversity, y'know

My only quibble? Asians seem to move in packs, and I HATE getting bumped into when Im dancing as 8 people all holding each other walk from one side of the dancefloor to the other

I agree with the Queen of Beans on the group issue. And why stand around when you can dance...its just more fun. And here in houston, there are many hispanics and some asians, we all blend so well. Race should not be a big issue here, right?right

There are a lot of Asian ravers in southern california (where I'm from). It's really unfortunate that so many Asian ravers here rave solely for the drugs. They're also being blamed for the e-puddling debacle down here as well. I'll admit, I've been to a lot of parties where the majority of e-puddlers are Asian. I've bumped a few or accidentaly kicked a few, and before I can even say, 'oops sorry...' they usually shoot me down with a dirty look, so I just smile and walk away. I think the worst part about e-puddling, is that they do it right in front of the speakers or smack dab on the middle of the dancefloor. But don't get me wrong, I've met some of the nicest, warmest, coolest Asians at most parties, it's just too bad the bad vibing/e-puddling ones are giving the rest a bad name.
 
dont get me wrong im filipino and all but i hate going to a rave and the crowd being asian white whatever race give me a bad look already cause i am asian dang i think it is those select few okay maybe many(e-puddlers) that kill it for us too i dont like gettin prejudged but it seems if i go with my friends that are asian damn i feel the bad vibes even before i enter the party but whatever race should not be a factor i believe raves as a place to FREE YOUR STYLE AND NOT TO BE GROUPED AS ONE
 
Just my thoughts, but when I went to M2K on New Years, it was with my boyfriend and two of our friends from LA, all of us caucasian, and less than an hour after we got there, we met up with this group of about 20 asian people. We just started dancing and talking and all of us ended up partying together all night like old friends. When the New Year came, I was at the center of 20+ people all hugging for like 5 minutes before midnight, and more people of all races started joining in until by midnight there were like 40-50 of us all hugging and celebrating. All it takes sometimes is one person willing to bridge the gap and racial lines fall down, wouldn't it be nice if we could all be that "one person". PLUR, Vg
 
Here's the real deal with Azn Ravers foo! i'm here in LA and i party in both the hip-hop and rave/club scene. Some people complain that asians are here only for the drugs? Some are and some aren't just like whites, blacks, and martians. Asians are not only into the drugs anymore than other races. The majority of asians who are "just into drugs" are the fobs cuz they can't dance. does this sound familiar to people who can't dance and choose to just drop and chill? It's the same at the hip-hop clubs when white boys just chill(stand by the bar) and watch, while the asians and blacks groove on the dance floor. are they just there for the alcohol? i don't think so! personally, i feel that asian americans give the best lightshows and dance/liquid the best. it's an art when it comes to glowsticks which most other races don't seem to get. as much as i luv rubber in OC, the peeps really suck at glowsticks(and dancing). they just wave it in the air and think it's gonna blow u up. when we get out there the crowd is awed-just an off-topic observation. anywaz, people please keep the peace and stop the bullshit rumors. alright A&E?! mail me punk! jk! lates
 
i'm from g.grove ca( where the largest number of asian refugees live) and i totally know how u feel. i'm asian and i hang out with alot of asians, but at raves i usually like to go and mingle with white peeps because they're always cool and don't care bout the color of my skin. everytime i've bumped into a white person at a rave i always say sorry and they're like" it's cool bro" when i bump into some one of my owm race(vietnamese) they start givin me bad looks which brings bad vibes. i mean i meet cool asian peeps but the majority of the cool people i meet are white. THE ONLY THING THAT SUCKS IS THAT OTHER RACES USUALLY THINK THAT ALL ASIANS ARE LIKE THAT, AND THAT IS NOT TRUE. ME AND MY BOYS ARE THERE TO HAVE FUN AND BRING NOTHING BUT THE BEST VIBES!!!!
 
hey chronic smoker. sorrie to hear that you're having problems with asians in the rave scene. i live in costa mesa now and i graduated from UCI, so i know all bout the asian community in that area. if your hanging out with refugees(FOBS) esp westminster, then the vibe will definitely be diff from those of us, americans born/raised in the USA. It's a cultural diff with fobs cuz they are more timid, scared, stick with themselves, and distrustful of strangers. But, this is true with all foreigners. it just happens that only asian fobs rave in cali. the mexicans don't rave at all, but if they did, u would be bitching bout them too. shut up! think about it, would you be as "friendly" living in a foreign country where you don't speak the language well, know the customs, or see familiar faces? i don't think so...maybe u just haven't found the right asian crowd for u. try UCLA or UCSB where at least half the asians are bananas/sell-outs. i'ma mooncake myself-black on the inside and yellow(i mean nice, nice, brown-tan color) on the outside. And don't expect all foreigners to respond to you as US-born peeps would. i have no complaints about asian fobs and raving cuz there are just so much more bigger shit to complain/worry about if your talking bout races and raving. betta' get use to all types of asians raving cuz we are gettin HUGE! so, go with the flow and stop bitching bout nuttin! later boy! by the way, chronic smoker=brandon h.? if so, give "lance" a call so that i can skool you! take it easy "bro" :b
 
I'm from southern cali and I am white yet I have a large number of Asian friends.
When I started going to raves there weren't very many Asians in the scene....now there are LOTSSSS.
but ya know....99% of the Asians go to the commertialized not-really-raves kind of parties. They are held at the same places every week and have the same DJs who play the same songs.
If you go to an underground (like a party without a flyer) you will find yourself at a party with a mix of mostly white, very few asians, some hispanics, and even a few blacks.....and definitely don't have epuddles!
Asians have always been known to stick together...its not just something that they do when they come into the rave scene! I think the comment about them sitting on the floor because they don't know how to dance/or are shy is a good point that I never really thought of. But even so...the fact that they lay right SMACK in the middle of the dance floor or right in front of the speakers is still very disheartening.
I feel bad for the Asians who AREN'T like that...because I know they must get a lot of shit for it. Maybe trying to help out your fellow asians in teaching them might help. Hearing it from a bunch of white people is sure a lot different from hearing it from their own people...no matter what you may say.
I am from a crew that throws parties here in So Cali and at our last party it was my job to do "etard patrol"....to go around and ask the people laying down in dancing areas to get up. When I would ask...they would get up, then right as I turned to walk away they'd sit right back down. They have absolutely NO RESPECT what-so-ever. I really don't know what else to do about the situation here...education is obviously not working with them.
All I have done is just try not to go to the kinds of parties that cater to those "types" of ravers (Asian, white, hispanic, black, or whatever.......just ones who behave that way)

Well, I am as Arian as probably possible and have to say that i have never had a bad vibe from anyone of any race at any so. cal rave ..yet. I have to agree with AznRave that the comment that some Asians go just for the drugs is pretty ridiculous as it applies to all races. In the handful of parties i have been to the best dancers I have seen are Asians, the cutest costums, the best glow stick shows... i have seen more Asian e puddles, more attached dancing asians....but think its cuz there are much MORE ASIANS than any other race at the raves in So. Cal.
Blacks , whites, hispanic are always in the minority (which is probably good for us for a switch). I have always been a little curious about this since, ok there is a huge asian population in CA, but not more than others...do asians identify with the music...dancing? Do asians just understand more how to have fun than the rest?
I have heard that there are some clubs in So Cal which are mostly asians and whites are not welcome, true?
 
Hey I'm asian too and i see that a lot in NYC. Where the asian crowds just literally clutters one whole area and whenever i walk by it, I feel like i'm walking through chinatown or K-town. I guess that there isn't much that people can do about that. As time goes the real ones will remain and the "wanna be's" will go away.
I've met so many beautiful people be it whatever their color shape or size be. It just takes half of a brain cell to open your mind. And i hope that everyone could and would do that.
But then again its not only Asians that do that sort of thing... it pretty much goes for all races... no?

yeah there are lots of clubs in so cali where other races are not welcome.
mainly in k-town.
and like i said........the scene in so cali is NOT mostly asian....CLUB MASTERDOME, CLUB LA CASA, and CLUB FOX THEATER are...but I DO NOT consider parties held there anymore raves.
There is beginning to be a seperation of the scene here......I can see it.
 
hey funneface, i'm here to answer all your questions about asians and raving/clubbin/life. but first, did u say that your asian or arian??? he! anywayz, asians only compose about 2% of the US population-far below hispanics and blacks. asians are mostly concentrated in cali, ny, and boston. Even so, asians are still in the minority populations-wise even in these states/cities. it just seems like there are alot of asians around cuz we dominate the schools(UC system in cali), malls, and rave/clubs. u can say that we study hard, party hard, and shop hard. As far as the asian only clubs in LA, that's only true for a very few, fob korean clubs in K-town. in fact, u can't even get into a korean club if your chinese, japanese, viet or any other asian except korean. as for other asian clubs in socal, they are huge, but are mostly hardcore hip-hop(i don't mean whiteboy will smith/top 40), which whites and hispanics don't seem to care for. there are a good number of blacks at these asian clubs (and none at raves)too. well, i luv both the hip-hop and rave scene here in Socal, but i've only heard shit/complaints about asians from the ravers. Are we detroying your scene or vibe? whateva'......sooo un-PLUR!
 
i feel bad for starting all this...i'm not trying to start a race topic..just that myslef being asian i'm more observing in my own race...and dont get me wrong...like a lot of people said...i've seen some best light show form some asian...anybody know this guy who spin glow stick around his head? and kick it then cath it...if u knew...he's the bomb...saw him at quest in oakland, and the matrix by LA...anyhow...i was just wondering if anyone observing the same shit i was
