Are chakras a drug induced perception of biology and body language, or an actual opening of sensory filters to cosmic energy? They are both plausible but cannot be supported by experiment. Any thoughts?

Personally, I view the chakra concept as a primitive explanation to something that may be real possibly analogous to blood-letting at barbershops.

No.. chakra points aren't real.
Never seen them, but I have felt my heart and throat chakra a couple of times. The heart one happened recently when I was on the verge of having a panic attack. It felt like my heart was doing 200bpm and I thought I was having a heart attack.. so I checked my pulse and it was just above normal.. but there was something in the centre of my chest pulsating. I experienced the same thing on acid once. And maybe one other time.
Personally I think they're nerve centres which also interact electrically or etherically in some fashion. Just my 2 cents.

part of the subtle or energetic body i suppose. tbh i trust my intuition that chakras are real as is kundalini and kundalini rising. i don't really like the whole richard dawkins reductive rationalist perspective that everything must be able to be measured scientifically for there to be truth somewhere.
^ +1 to that. Unfortunately it's easy, and understandable, to not think the subtle energy system isn't real. We've had so many frauds and hucksters through history trying to convince us of things we can't see. Hypnotism was considered magic until fairly recently, but it works.

The chakras are just the energetic body. Their basis is in the nerve plexuses of the body. The throat, the heart, the solar plexus, the sacral... they all have major endocrine glands and nerve plexuses in those locations, no doubt giving off bioelectric energy. If you can train in seeing auras you can see people's chakras, especially if they're doing any kind of qi gong with their bodies.
Kundalini is real, the sensation is so tangible... makes me wonder if there's a major nervous system component. But who knows.
The chakras are the etheric level of major bio-energy centres of the body, in a nut shell. But I do believe they also contain information pertaining to consciousness, and are not merely some kind of electrical aura. In some of my experiments, I put my hands around a person's chakra while laying on the table, and received insights into what troubles that particular aspect of the energy body. There's way more going on here than modern humans are understanding... makes me wonder about what we have forgotten.
