Technology Anyway to get a movie off a dead laptop?

So i managed to get this rare movie downloaded on my laptop a year or 2 ago but it died and i never got to watch it. Is it possible to be able to get a movie off a dead laptop?
 
Yeah, take the hard drive out, and use an adapter to plug it into another laptops usb, then search for the movie
 
Keep it away from static, or in the old chassis where it's assumedly safely grounded, until you get the adapter. Most HDDs' SATA ports aren't very bench stable.

Edit: Should specify that this is based on my experience with any laptop from before ~2022, I haven't yet gutted any newer ones. Workplace thin client machines used HDDs that had microSATAs that necessitated static proof bags for storage.

It's called Blossi 810551. It's a Icelandic movie that is impossible to track down because as far as i have been able to figure out was only o VHS. I only saw it because it was on a Canadian station that showed alot of foreign movies and sub them themslves
 
Pull the hard drive and connect it to another computer.

If something other than the drive failed or if it was just the OS then it will be still mountable and the movie retrieved.
 
While we are chatting does anyone know how you can tell if a battery is dead on a lap top or if it is just the computer that doesn't work anymore ?

And can anyone actually fix a laptop that won't work at all with just actually only a battery ?

My feelings are that just getting a whole new laptop is the best and most logical solution.

But some people don't back up their data because the hardware changes have to be adapted so often.

Meaning that the hardware has to interface with the new software systems. ((( chips )))
 
if battery is dead it should still work off A/C

i have an old laptop using for music and i just removed the battery completely and run it off A/C

Alright, but how about a battery for the hard drive itself. Not just charging a battery but having to replace the whole battery itself then ?
 
^ what do you mean?

the hard drive uses the same power source as the other components. if the battery is dead but the machine runs on ac power only, the hard drive will work.

I have 3 laptops that probably need batteries,but now I just pick up Amazon's fire tablets that last a year or more,my dogs like to skate on them in bed so hell no I'm not investing
