Hi, I'm new on this site btw, my names Lauren. been an IV heroin user for 2 years. just 2 days ago, upon leaving detox, I was forced to get a Vivitrol shot, an opiate blocker supposedly lasting 28 days. It also supposedly blocks ones ability to get drunk.. which I have found to be personally completely untrue. Now what I'm trying to figure out is how well does it really block opiates? and towards the end of the 28 days, say in the last week, can I get high? I've done a little research and it appears it might vary person to person. In the past however I've been less sensitive to opiate blockers. for example, after taking 2mg suboxone I was able to get just as high as usual as little as 4 hours later. I've never tried to get high sooner than that on sub. I just wana know... when is it worth giving it a try? at 3 weeks? 3 and a half? idk, anyone have personal experience? Thanks :D

from what ive heard its not that the naltrexone prevents you from getting drunk

it prevents you from getting the positive feelings/euphoria from getting drunk

so you can still get sloppy n what not but its suppose to take away that positive feeling one gets from drinking so that they dont want to/arent reinforcing their alcoholic behavoirs

as for opiates i dunno, i dont have any personal experience with naltrexone and opiates but i would assume something similar applies, you can try using dope but its unlikely that dope will kick the naltrexone off your receptors and even if some got through its unlikely you would get the experience you are looking for,

who knows tho perhaps your correct in thinkin that towards the end of the 28 days that the blockade effect will be weaker n you may be able to break through with some dope.

?, was the detox you went to forced? if it was voluntary and you decided to go to detox for youself then maybe you should try n sort things out in these next few weeks n se where you wanna go n what you wanna do n how you are gonna accomplish what you want. anyways i dont wanna preach at you n i understand if you werent ready to get clean n it was forced on you im just sayin if you were interested in gettin clean then maybe try n use the vivitrol to give yourself a good opportunity

also as far as being less sensitive to opiate blocking medications i would say 2mg of suboxone isnt necessarily a particularly "blocking" dose, i mean it varies person to person n varies depending on the size of your habit but 2mg is pretty much on the low end for blockable doses, first time i was on subs i tried to not use more then 2mg a day just in case i wanted to get high cuz i knew i could still get high with 2mg of bupe n my system, although i do think less is more with subs in regards to maintenance n tapering n quitting i do think in regards to blockin other opiates effects one might want to go a bit higher then 2mg but thats just my .02

best of luck with whatever you decide to do

Naltrexone is an opioid antagonist. Among others it has been found to block (some of the) euphoria and addicting effects of drugs like alcohol, amphetamines, etc in addition to blocking the effects of opioids. I assume it's a pretty good opioid blocker, or they wouldn't use it clinically...

It's pretty unlikely you will be able to get high (on most opioids) after exactly 28 days, as that's just an ideal figure for how long the naltrexone keeps releasing. I would not be suprised if effects remain for 45-60 days or more, esp. if you don't metabolise opioids well. But you'll never really know unless you try. Just keep doses low until you know what works... your tolerance may have gone off a bit.

There's a couple of notable exceptions, some realllly potent, tight-binding drugs like buprenorphine will actually out-compete the naltrexone for binding at your opioid receptors, so you should still be able to use bupe at least...

i was wondering the same thing, i just got the shot my ass hurts. i am leaving detox today (not ama, the nurses say im ready to go and i really want a cigarette) but i am still uncomfortable and its cold outside and i have a 4mg suboxone i want to do, though i dont wanna do dope.

I believe fentanyl would outcompete naltrexone as well. Just be glad they didnt make you get the one that lasts for six monyhs!! Also your tolerance will drop significantly over this month take care not to kill yourself when you shootup again.
