Anyone been to South America / tried Coke there?

I was reading in a semi-recent edition of Maxim Magazine (US Version) that these guys traveled to Bogota, Colombia and said that there were people offering cocaine to them at $5 (US Dollars) per gram. I guess they were down there doing "research" on a new energy drink that contains some cocaine alkaloids. The drink was called "Coca-Sek" and was not illegal.

Has anyone ever been there (or even any other South American country such as Peru) and tried any local stuff?

I'm curious when it comes to this kind of thing prior to booking a vacation. I don't use this stuff frequently (probably 6 times throughout my entire life) but if I'm on a vacation, anything goes...

If this stuff is true, it kinda makes me want to experience what Colombian night life is all about (plus those south american girls are A++++++++)

i'm very adventurous... - and i forgot to mention, i've ONLY traveled alone, which might sound crazy, but that's how i always seem to have the most fun - i'm an outgoing person who tries to befriend locals whenever i travel abroad to get the best cultural experience i possibly can

yea i agree, but for some reason, when im on a trip in a foreign city, i tend to not really worry about things like that... i think it could happen ANYWHERE, i mean more places are known for it but i've walked around in some pretty sketchy cities at like 2-3am by myself and nothing has ever happened... maybe i'm asking for a deathwish???

-either way, my goal in life is to have as much fun as possible, and taking risks is one of the things that i consider fun

$5?? they was getting ripped off then. I was paying $1 a gram for top tier cocaine in Medellin, Colombia, the price was in pesos tho, but it came out equivalent to around $1 a gram. They also sell coca paste in marble sized balls wrapped in coca leaves that are then tied off at the top usually with twine. That shits even cheaper, im talking equivalent to around 25 cents US for one of these balls.

I lived in Colombia for several months, I lived in Medellin, home of Pablo Escobar and Colombias most famous drug cartel. I even visited pablos grave site, hes buried next to his loyal bodyguard, there was boquets of fresh flowers at his grave, apparently hes still a popular dude even in death.

Id also visited Cali, several small towns, and Cartagena. Cartagena is a beautiful city, especially the old city within the fortress walls, very picturesque and super colorful, but then so is Medellin another beautiful city nestled in a valley sorrounded by coffee crops. Cali wasnt so pretty, but the ladies definetly were. The cocaines cheap and readily available. The best places to score at at the edge of the slums. If your wanting to buy larger amounts (anything over 5 or so grams) you usually have to give a guy I call slum-scum your cash and they will go deep into the slums to score for you. I would defintly advise against going into the slums yourself, no matter how many guns your packin. The country is not nearly as dangerous as people will try to have you beleive, and fuckin beautiful scenery wise.

BUT you must be extra careful for scams, theres somone trying to scam you on every street corner, and theyve got some really really bizarre scams. Also, its practically impossible to get any police officers to go get your money back from a scam, even if the guy who scammed you is still standing at the same spot, im pretty sure most the street cops there are paid off by the scam artists and thats why they wont do jackshit but shrug you off.

Otherwise, pretty incredible place. If you go on any of the hikes to the ancient ruins, be careful cause thats when alot of people get kidnapped. And people there will do anything to make a buck, for example, on one hike I went on, there was a cocaine lab operator waiting at the ruins who, for $5, would take you on a 15 minute side tour to his jungle cocaine lab, no joke. He'll even pose with you for a photo!

Dont know about SouthAmerica, but had a bit in CoastaRica and Panama. We didnt have a scale but off the big chunk it looked to be around 20$ a gram. It was the totaly fish scale stuff. My jaw droped when I saw the big piece they were breaking little jibs off of.

You can get coke extremely cheap down there. Just remember the closer you get to the source the scarier it gets. I would just meet a local and have him go in the jungle for me and pay him extra. Theres no way In hell I'm walking into that jungle.

I did coke only in SA. The blow in Colombia 15 years ago was awsome. The blow in Peru right now is not cut but it is not good (for how this is possible, see LJ's thread regarding cocaine purification). Half the population in those countries have a connection. In Peru I've had call-girls actually ordering coke balls by phone in a motel where I had repaired with them. This apparent impunity doesn't mean there's no danger for tourists though.

Note that coke is the same (low) price in some West African countries than in SA. Ships cross the Atlantic with consignments which are reshipped/redistributed for smuggle into the European market. I got precooked crack in one West African country that was at least as good as what I had cooked in Peru two months before.

Countries on that continent that I have been to: Argentina, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, Paraguay, Brasil, Venuzuela, Surinam, and Colombia.

I have done cocaine hcl there, as well as Basuco which is an intermediate form of cocaine between the paste and base stages. It is smoked and is real nasty, made from ground corn and a tiny bit of cocaine sulphate, but lasts a long while and is very cheap.

As for the article, the price is about right but you will likely be offered bunk. They see Americans and Europeans as walking money bags. If you have any time you might strike up a useful acquaintence.

As far as I know the experiment with legilisation for user amounts of all substances is still in effect in Colombia. That might help price waise. Just do your homeowrk extensively before going.

Also, stay far away from FARC and ELU land. Their second form of income after protection of the drug trade is kidnap for ransom of N. Americans and Europeans.

I do not want to down anyone but if they met a man at some ruins charging for tours of his coke lab, I would say Colombia must have really changed alot.

It's considered "dick-sizing" (not my wording). It leads to people trying to one-up each other and gets really pointless fast. Price discussion is allowed in the pricing thread- at the top of the forum. You know if one guy says I get a gram for $100, the next one is going to say "well oh yeah- I get it straight off the boat from Afghanistan, 100% pure and I only pay $20, you're getting ripped dude", ad nauseum.
