At my university, students who live in on-campus dorms (i.e. a short walk from class) are allotted most of the parking space on campus, and also have by far the cheapest price for a parking permit (around $100-200 per year). Those who live off campus and thus have a legitimate reason to have to drive to class every morning get fucked with broomhandle. I have the option of choosing between the campus garage ($900 per year) or pay $350 for one of the two "yellow lots" which are over a mile from my closest class (and no, that is not an exaggeration, I fucking measured it :|).

If you are caught parking without a pass or in a lot you didn't pay for, you are given a $25 fine. So far I've been parking wherever the fuck I want (pretty much within 10 feet of my class) in the lots specifically reserved for faculty and I've gotten an average of one ticket every three weeks. This is an immensely better deal than following the law. However, it still raises my blood pressure about 20 points whenever I walk out of class and see that yellow glint on my windshield adorned with officer dickhead's flimsy ass signature.

I've checked out other university's policies. Some appear to have specified lots in which students can park for free, and others appear to have even more draconian policies. Do you guys shell out obscene amounts of money simply to be able to make it to class?

Yes. Probably at least $1000 in fines over my years.

My school's science quad had student parking from 6pm-6am. I got into this horrible habit of driving from my dorm and to the quad, studying all night in a building, and then WALKING BACK TO MY DORM once I was done. One would think I would have learned, but I was all learned out from my courses, apparently. I'd always wake up in the afternoon and think Oh shit, the car...kiss another $100 goodbye.

My school is notorious for raping people out of parking money. Luckily one of my friends lives across the street from campus and he lets me park in his driveway. Major win. Private property is so cool, THE MAN has so much less ability to fuck with you.

My freshman year I had nearly $500 in parking fees (LOL mainly due to losing my car while high on xanax and leaving it parked for 5 days in a 2 hour parking zone :D).

Wow almost a grand for a yearly parking permit, crazy. I paid right around $150 for a yearly permit.

Peace,

What kinda crazy ass schools do you guys go to?

My school gives the commuters/ people that live further from campus a different color parking pass/sticker

They get to park closer if they live further, and the people that live near campus get the shitty parking lots...

I'm sure you can just lie to them about where you are living, but hey it sounds way better than your backwards ass school LOL no offense , just saying that's retarded

They dont charge for parking at my school and theres always plenty of spaces unless you get there after 1 pm. And my last class is at 2 pm and first one is at 8 am so I always get a good spot. If you park in faculty/staff parking the first time its a 5 dollar fine. Second time a 25 dollar fine and the third time you get the car towed and they charge 175 dollars. Pretty fair if you ask me. I go to a some what small community college though....

Oh man, don't even get me started with parking. My University makes a killing on giving out parking tickets. I swear, it's their primary source of income. I've had several over the years, everything from parking on top of the yellow line, to parking in a place that didn't have a "no parking" sign.

The worst thing about it, is that they are machines about handing out tickets. If you're a minute over the clock (metered parking) you will have a ticket. I've actually caught one of the fuckers lurking in a lot, waiting for the time to expire. I'm pretty sure they pre-write the tickets and then wait for their watch to tick over. They are everywhere and they NEVER miss a ticket. If you've gone over by even a few minutes, there's a 90% chance you will find a ticket on your windshield.

I had the idea of hooking my car battery up to my windshield wiper, so it zaps anyone who tries to lift it up. I was going to do it too, but I was told I could get expelled and charged.

I've fought every ticket, and won maybe 1/2 of them. I finally broke down and bought a parking pass this year ($180 a semester) and now I park and it's a 10-15 minute walk to class.

I pay 30 dollars a semester for parking I dont use, as I take the bus?????

Then another 12 dollars for maintinance of the parking lot...

yeah you got me on that one... ???

we're lucky, parking is about $280 a year but there are spots down the street where you can park. It's about a half mile walking distance but if you take a bike inside your car, you're good.

Damn, this thread is nuts. Made for a good laugh though.

I think one would pay around $35-$40 at the community college near me. When I was attending though I would always just park in the parking lot across the street and I never had a problem.

The school I used to go to was probably about $200 per semester for parking. Not too bad, but the spots were so fucking small that you could hardly fit a compact car in them, let alone the Jeeps and shit that other people drove. The parking people would hand out tickets if you were 1" over the designated spot lines... $30 a pop. The retarded part is that if ONE PERSON parks A LITTLE over their spot, it forces EVERYBODY else over. There were rows windshields with yellow slips under the windshield wiper every morning. Fuckers.

I rode a motorcycle when I was in college (out at the moment) and I HAD to get a parking permit
so my bike didn't get stolen and it was alot for theat stupid sticker and . . . it ruined my paint.

$1300 for fall and spring at UC Berkeley (overnight parking)...I have my car at a storage lot 3.5 miles away in a ghetto ass part of town bordering Oakland, and I was happy to pay $450 for that...I take a bus to get my car every few weeks to drive to my hometown, but other than that, I have no use for it really...I should sell the damn thing.

Wow I thought I paid a lot, i was clearly wrong. I pay $225 (aud) per year to park at my Uni. My only qualm is that from 10.30-3pm you cant find any parking.

But I can also walk from home, so when I get up early enough, I do.
