I don't know what it is(nostalgia?) but lately been going through my old catalogues of music and have been jamming to pink Floyd. I know Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall get most of the attention but I feel like Wish You Were Here is on equal ground. Also have been listening to Animals and I used to hate this album but listening to it this was David Gilmours zenith as a musician.It has very few songs and they are quite long but he's got be one of the top 20 guitarists of all time.Not to leave out Nick Mason who is widely overlooked for the sound effects he produces on their albums that along with Gilmours guitar give Pink Floyd their sound.

Also love the song fearless I'm listening to it now,can't believe it was only released as a b side and on Meddle(bullshit compilation album)

I'll always be a Floyd fan. The reason I replied to the thread though is because David Gilmour is one of my favorite guitarists. I'm not a musician so I don't know the technical term for it, but I just love his "tone" or "sound". I always thought his short solo in "Time" was great. Not technically difficult, it just sounds great.

I'm a pretty big Pink Floyd fan. They might be in my top twenty bands. Might be, because I don't know all their releases. I've never listened that closely to most of their earlier albums. I generally listen from Meddle to Wish You Were Here and then I abruptly stop.

In fact, I would be so bold as to say Wish You Were Here is better. Their best IMO. Every single track is fucking golden. I love the use of filtered noise and almost industrial aspect of Welcome to the Machine. The title track is pure nostalgic, winsome sunny afternoon thinking stuff. I felt that as soon as I heard it.

(I find it irritating that, in the main chorus, he doesn't actually say "Wish", he cuts it off and says "How I wi..., how I wish you were here-ere-e-ere.". He leaves out the '-...sh' on Wish. I cannot unhear that. It almost ruined the song for me. :|)

Echoes is the track that got me into them. My brother had a best of, and I wanted to get into it, but found it a bit impenetrable. This was about 15 years ago. But, I got really stoned and put on 'Echoes' and it just fucking blew me away. The whole track flowed and made sense, and I loved the eerie vocal melodies. Still one of my favorite songs, though I feel the middle 8 (hmm) is too long; I think they could have cut out a minute or two of guitar FX and whatnot, but when stoned, these parts are actually vital.

I also love the song "Time". Top 5 Pink Floyd song status. :)

Back to my disdain for the earlier albums. I'd like to enjoy them, I like twee and frivolous music, but where to start?

The Bass in Money is awesome,I'm guessing Darkside of the Moon is your favs? Hey You brings me back to the early 90's skipping high school tripping on acid watching The Wall. I know the movie was literally made to trip to and I must add they did an incredible job. And the worms ate into his brains........Man I love me some Floyd. Dude (Bob Geldof or Pink as he's called in the movie) totally lost it over his wife fucking around on him and apparently some really good (or bad depending on how you look at it)acid!
 
The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Obscured by Clouds ( sounds like a cool adult film soundtrack), . Interstellar Overdrive is my favorite Pink Floyd song. The Wall is nice and trippy.

You like their early stuff huh? Yeah I love it all and even though all of their musicis a bit "experimental" especially the early stuff even the first few albums Sid wasn't on they continued his approach and put out some wild shit.
You know I commented on one of your posts and it was deragotive(my reply) about Phish and them being a jam band so I feel the need to apologize because that is early Floyd,jam band. Even though I don't like Phish doesn't mean shit,i am definetly no critic and shouldn't be one!My apologies!
 
It is cool and the gang. I actually appreciate the fact that you made the connection. By the way, you are a critic. It's all in the approach. Speaking only about myself,sometimes the right critique, makes me think and examine. It has to be proper( anyone who's listening). I don't care for so an so, because vs your music sucks, fu. Yes, I've always loved Pink Floyd and always will. I am blown away by David Gilmour and his solos, especially Comfortably Numb.
