So this has been going on for years, partially from MDMA and stimulant abuse I had this problem before but that stuff only made it worse I have quit it tho. I want to either try an SSRI or benzo to help me an I know all about the risks of benzo addiction. But I just can't get myself to see a doctor cuz I fear he will look at me as a drug seeker or not believe me on my problem. Also cuz I feel anxious of just actually going into a doctor office.. What should I do?

you have to be honest with your doctor and what's going on. if you have legit needs and issues, they are not going to view you as a drug seeker (at least they shouldn't). a psychiatrist may be more understanding of your needs than a primary care/family physician. whoever you choose to see, make sure you are honest with them.

how do i see a phyciatrist? what would he most likely say about my situation? im just extremely worried they will just overlook me and not help me. i am willing to try any med even ssri's which i heard usually dont do shit for anxiety. but if they say its gonna help i guess..and whats the chance of gettin a benzo? i live in america btw if that helps. in Arizona

I would suggest asking your primary care doctor for a referral to a psychiatrist. They are going to evaluate you first, so I'm not too sure what to say. I don't think they will overlook you, that is what they are trained to do.. Try the SSRI's if they give them to you-- you don't know if they will work if you don't try them :)

So your main problem is anxiety?
Do you get panic attacks?
I wouldn't expect SSRIs to reduce anxiety. But they should work in combination with therapy.
Benzos are great for short term problems but in the long term, therapy is best.

Just tell the truth and be as open as possible - that's about the best advice you can get if you really want to fix your problem.

you definitely have to keep trying different combinations and dosages prescribed by your psychiatrist. Wellbutrin and Effexor worked for me. I used to have so much anxiety but now I am on 2 very very small doses of Wellbutrin and Effexor daily; I'm a brand new person and have such a more positive outlook! Through puberty our seretonin levels change hun, sometimes we need a little adjustment and these medications help with that wonderfully. Talk to your doctor.

This is very positive and practical advice! To echo what everyone else sagely suggested, honesty is your best policy. Could it be that your anxiety over making the appointment itself might stem from the fact that to do so is a foreign, unfamiliar experience for you?

My feeling is that any one seeking, or who has sought, psychiatric treatment has felt this way at one time or another - myself included. Fear not; the quest will be pure where the intentions are likewise <3
