Alright guys so I'm kind of stumped. I feel like my calculations are right but the amounts seem too small to be measured in a volumetric pipet. So I need to make a 1 ppm solution of cumene with pentane as the solvent in a 5 ml volumetric flask.

cumene density = 0.862 g/ml
pentane density = 0.626 g/ml


1 ppm = 1 mg of solute per 1000 g of solvent. Since it is done in a 5 ml vol flask, 3.13 g of cumene will be the amount of solvent. So, 3.13 g x 1 mg / 1000 g = 0.00313 mg of solute needed. So 3.13^-6 g / 0.862 g/ml = 3.63 x 10^-6 ml which is 3.63 nl. We don't have volumetric pipets that go that low, so there must be some error in my calculations.
 
pentane is the solvent. How much cumene do you need per liter of pentane? Divide that by 200.

By my math, that's 9.27 microliters cumene per 5 mL pentane.
