An Evening By The Sea

As I stand at the edge of the shoreline, I can see the sun beginning to set. It's golden rays slice the surface of the water like brilliant golden spears. A gull flies lazily overhead calling to his mate. He heralds his homecoming, and hearing this, she softens the nest just for him. For she has chosen only the choicest down to line his portion of their home.
I can hear the waves lapping gently against the wet sand. They rake the topmost layers as if grooming the hair of a lover. The impurities are swept away as the ocean cleanses herself in a constant, rhythmic motion.
The sun has now set and the stars take their turn on the stage. In the distance, I hear the soft splash of a fish catapulting itself from it's water home. I imagine that he dreams of life outside his ocean home. Then deciding to venture into the air, his need for home is ever drawing him back. What a short journey, but I envy this creature for his courage to break free of the bonds of his environment, if only for a moment.
The lovers walk hand in hand and wish me well as they drift by. Their passion for each other causes them to appear as if gliding over the sandy surface. I envy them also, as I am here alone, yearning for the comfort of my love. Their laughter is as the tinkling of bells in the moonlight.
The motion of the tide hypnotizes me and I can almost imagine you are here. I can hear your soft voice whispering tales of love to me. I can feel your hand on the base of my spine and your lips on my forehead brushing my skin ever so softly.
As my mind makes it's way back to reality, I am certain that I've never been so lonely. Yet, at the same time, I am certain that I've never been so loved. I yearn for your eyes, colored deep as the ocean's mystery. Sleep well, my love, for my own dreams are only of you.
