Amphetamines & Tooth Decay

So I've read that using Amphetamines/Meth and having tooth decay is pretty common. In my case, it was using Adderall for no reason other than recreational, that turned into a little addiction before I completely stopped. Around 2 months ago I used around 40mg every other day, etc, for a month, and I also have braces.

Went to the dentist a month ago, and I have 11 cavities. I've NEVER had a problem with cavities except when I was a little kid, and I always brush my teeth in the morning/night, although I sometimes do forget to brush right after eating.

Im wondering, has this happened to any fellow bluelighters? Where they got dental cavities because of Amphetamines. I am not even sure if I should blame the Adderall, when I was on it, I chewed gum all day like a maniac, and I know my gums were dryer than usual.

speed is well known for being hard on your teeth, you tend to produce less saliva, get bruxism and someone told me that amphetamine fucks around with your bodies clacium though in what way i dont know (this woman was a heavy amphetamine user-1 gram a day of amphetamine sulphate-very potent stuff).

Lack of oral hygiene is one of the causes of mouth decay. like Pofaced said, speed is hard on your teeth.

Erowid said:
Damage to Teeth and Gums #: Jaw tension can lead to teeth grinding (bruxia/bruxism) and permanent wear and cracking. Long-term use of amphetamines can result in tooth rot (dental caries) and loss of teeth. [Shaner 2002] Regular amphetamine use can lead to gingivitis (inflammation of the gums). This may be the result of prolonged dry mouth which can cause the gums to become inflamed, worsening oral health. [Hasan 2004].

Have you been eating sugary foods or beverages?

I dont tend to eat sugary foods much, but definitely soda. I quit drinking soda about a month ago or so, and I've been drinking it since I was a little kid so its a lot of pop.

I am guessing Soda + Amphetamines + sometimes forgetting to brush after eating = cavities. I know probably one of the reason's I got so many was drinking soda at night AFTER brushing my teeth.
