I have been taking these two medications for quite some time;[40mg/Adderall & 20 mg/Lexapro] My dose of my lexapro was doubled yesterday from (10 to 20)mg, and I have been feeling very floaty and vision has been dulled(in fact I had to take my glasses off cause it made it worse). The action of the Adderall has been altered too and I can't put my fingure on it.

2) The effects that I have been noticing aren't that bad actually, but I would like to know if they will disappear,or become less apparent?

1) I also would like to know the adderall is somehow affecting the seritonin system. Or maybe the Lexapro is affecting another nerotransmitter?(which I highly doubt)?

I looked all over for info on this topic and the results were lame. So I UTFSE, and this is a topic that no one has touched upon. Any Input would be nice.(not to fuck w/my amp,I will not call the doc. Please dont tell me to)

The serotonergic effects of amphetamine and coke are usually underplayed, and theres a bit of evidence that it is more important than a lot of people say (not that I can think of it right now).

Eitherway, amphetamine by itself does cause a significant increase in serotonin release, which your lexapro (escitalopram) will be stopping. I would have geussed that this would make it less fun (as a lot of people report with SSRIs+coke)... though its possible, that by blocking serotonin uptake, the lexapro is blocking the uptake of dopamine/noradrenaline overflow, and potentiating it that way...

Yeah, I kinda like that idea.

If the serotonin release is mostly caused by the release of dopamine and nor-epinephrine (which tend to promote nerve firing, including I suspect serotonin neurons) then an SSRI might have some potentiating effect by slowing the re-absorption of serotonin released through neuron firing.

This is a hard question to answer without experimental data, because the network consequences of chronic SSRI administration could potentially (since nobody knows enough yet) have either effect, though Bilz0r's hypothesis appeals to be from the whole Occam's Razor perspective. Have any researchers looked at this? There was a recent paper in Neuron showing that the increase in tonic 5-HT levels after chronic SSRI administration causes dopamine neurons to take up and release serotonin as a false transmitter. I haven't read it that carefully yet so I don't remember what the effects were on dopamine release and levels, but it could be relevant. OK I'm rambling now…
