Ambien Hangover...? Seriously?

I was looking forward to getting back on ambien because I can't sleep for sh**, but now, after doing some research I've found that a lot of people actually have a hangover effect from ambien and that it supposedly lasts a lot longer than when they first thought (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...rous-entire-day-according-new-FDA-labels.html)
I was just curious, how many other people experience an ambien hangover?. I don't think I ever did...

p.s. I'm guessing this hangover effect would make the extended release version a worse choice..?

My understanding of it was more or less not that they got the half-life wrong, more that they were making pills in higher doses than were truly necessary. Also half-life doesn't always correlate to duration of action, so even waking up with a small amount of the substance active, it can have more pronounced effects (yet hard to notice when under its influence).

I was on it at 10mg per night as needed, but that's been a while now. At this point I think they are going more for a maximum for 5mg max, especially in non tolerant individuals. Far too many ambien blackouts, but IMHO that was more from people taking it and staying up. I never had any issues if I took my dose and put myself straight in bed.

Bottom line is, every drug effects people slightly differently, and this one seemed to have a wider range of variance than most.

I took Ambien maybe 10 years ago so I dont know about dosages nowadays, but I remember catching little hangovers if I took it late night back then. I was also probably about 16 years old and 140 pounds so that might have had something to do with it. It wasnt as substantial as a mean booze hangover, it was more of a groggy fogginess in the morning.

Have you considered non addictive alternatives to Ambien. My mom went through hell trying to regulate her sleep after "kicking" Ambien, it affected her job and family life at home quite negatively. We had her on pot for awhile but now shes drug free, just exercises and takes a dose of melatonin and another vitamin before bed, sleeps fine nowadays.

I currently take melatonin and diphenhydramine for sleep.
Right now its 4 07 am and I'm not asleep. Its mostly related to anxiety issues at night because of stuff that happened in my past at night. And ambien helped a lot with that anxiety. I go to the doc tomorrow.
But yea, I've been up this time and later every night recently. A lot worse since I've gotten off benzos

Do you react well to cannabis? Ive known people who absolutely would not smoke pot during the day, but needed it for sleep once bed time rolled around. 1 hit of some strong indica and hopefully you might just forget those Ambien and benzo difficulties. Worth a try at least, man. Good luck bro.

Very odd. I never experienced a hangover from Ambien.

In fact, I chose Ambien specifically, over EVERYTHING else, for the exact reason of avoiding a hangover. However, that doesn't mean it isn't possible to experience one. For instance, I experience an incredibly awful hangover from Marijuana (as weird as that sounds). Marijuana tends to give me bad insomnia, so if I even sleep at all, I usually wake up feeling extremely groggy, have a headache, and feel sore. In fact, now that I think about it, the Marijuana hangover I experience is almost like an Amphetamine comedown.....

I currently take melatonin and diphenhydramine for sleep.

While Melatonin and DPH are good for people who don't have constant insomnia and can work pretty well for people who DO have insomnia; I hate those.

Melatonin does very little for me, if anything at all. Diphenhydramine may make me sleepy, however, it makes me extremely restless and exacerbates my RLS. DPH also tends to make me extremely groggy and feel gross the next day. So I avoid it whenever possible.
