Okay well I don't religiously take xanax but when I do I'm popping 5 to 6 bars a session. Is this dose normal. I use maybe twice or three times a month.

yeah this is a very high dose, 2-3mg should be more then enough i use them on en regular basic and i get a buzz of 1.5-2mg xanax

No. A "normal" dose, as in a recommended or therapeutic dose, is generally in the range of 0.25mg to 2mg. 10-12mg is a very large amount.

With that said, many people use Xanax recreationally, and do take large doses as such. Sporadic use will not create problems, but often times people begin to take it more and more frequently, which consequently leads to severe dependency and a whole pile of potential negative side effects, some of which can be very dangerous.

Maybe try to cut your dose back and see if you don't get the effects you're looking for. Alprazolam is a very potent Benzodiazepine.

I mean I don't take that many all the time and when I do take just a bar, it doesn't give me the effect I'm trying to reach. I don't feel that I have I'm dependent or could get dependent on bars because of the fact I only have one connect and he only gets a certain amount a month. Do I just have an unusual tolerance?

It depends on the effect you're trying to achieve. Your tolerance is probably normal. It ultimately comes down to preference, based your perception of the effects. Do you simply want relief from anxiety and relaxation, or do you want to be borderline somnolent and completely uninhibited, and not remember anything the following day? That sort of thing.

No one feels they could become dependent on a drug, but it happens regardless. I'm not patronizing you in any way, just speaking from experience, because I've been there. Xanax is very addictive, so please use it with caution.

After what I'm going through this week, I have to say yes. A few years ago, I used to be like you, I didn't take Xanax all that often, but when I did, I drank Dos Equis. I meant to say, I would take 5 or 6 bars at a time, like you do.

Anyway, 2 weeks ago, I used bars a total of 4 fucking times, skipping days in between doses and everything. God only knows how, but somehow I became dependent on them, and the last 4 days have been some of the shittiest of my life, if not the shittiest. Alprazolam is pretty fucking strong compared to other benzos, and I didn't know that, and I made a huge fucking mistake.

I'm not taking them to relieve anxiety, i'm just simply using them to get high. I can take 5 bars and i'm not going to lie, after the 4th or 5th bar, i'm feeling nice. But when I can't get them anymore, it's not like im feening for them, and do crazy shit for it, or withdrawl from it. I just wait for my boy to re-up the next month and sometimes I go months without taking it again.

I just like that feeling of being on 5 bars instead of one. Do you guys really think that my occaisonally use of bars will become something more serious? Should I really slow down, or completely just stop using?

I think if you keep it to occasional use, you'll be alright. Me personally, if I make it through this, I'm never taking a bar again in my life. But I couldn't have known that until I learned for myself what the torture of benzo withdrawal feels like.

Thank you all for your input, im goin to take all this advice in mind and decide what is best for me to do about this.

higher than normal but if you havent had bad results you should be okay..also why not just try 2 or 3 and see what happins

Dude.. take a 3 month break and only use 3 bars per session, once a month like your doing. Trust me..... you dont want to get to 6 bars a day everyday and then run out. ABSOLUTELY horrible.

Oh, Jesus. I'm in very minor xanax withdrawal right now and just thinking of that kind of w/d gave me one of these anxiety attacks I've been having. It's weird, cause I used to read about benzo w/d on wikipedia and it didn't sound so bad. Sounded better than opiate w/d to me. It seemed like most of the symptoms were all in the person's head, and if they could just relax themselves, everything would be alright. Hahah, I have never been so wrong about anything in my life. I was using the bars to try to get off suboxone, I'm going to stay on suboxone for a few more months to make sure my brain is completely healed from the benzos, but when I get off the suboxone, I will take it in stride knowing how much fucking easier it is to get off than xanax.

Btw, what did you end up doing? Going to the doctor and tapering off? I can't imagine anyone being able to stop a habit like that cold turkey. That would just be more torure than the human body could take.

I've been there too

I don't feel that I have I'm dependent or could get dependent on bars because of the fact I only have one connect and he only gets a certain amount a month.

I hear you, I used use Xanax recreationally and didn't think i had a problem. Until I had a problem, which was too late. It snuck up on me big time and I ended up using around 10 mg per day for a while.

You can recognize the change from recreational to dependent use when having only one connect is no longer an obstacle to finding what you need. You WILL find another source because your brain is telling you in the deepest lizard centers that Xanax (or whatever) is necessary for survival. Rational though can not override the physical nature of that craving. I mean, I had a script for a fixed amount per month, and I always found ways to get more.

If you want to test yourself see if you can give it up voluntarily for a week while holding a stash. Just put your pills in a drawer and try going 7 full days without any. If you can do that you aren't dependent...

I took 9 bars last night and kinda blacked out but its not like I want it like I got to have it. I just love xanax. Sometimes I dont use for months. Is this okay? I just use it when I want to party.

if your blacking out that can cause some serious problems but if you only use it once or twice a week you probably won't have to worry about withdrawals

Dude, seriously, casual use and using it to party is ok, but 9 bars is a fuck load of alprazolam and blacking out is one of the results. I understand going long times in between use etc but blackouts and high doses can really fuck up your life addicted or not. Alprazolam is NOTORIOUS for causing major problems for people. Add a little alcohol on top of that, or another drug, or the wrong setting and you can have all kinds of trouble. At those doses you have zero control of your actions in my opinion. You become fearless, totally disinhibited, and prone think things like driving is a good idea, or that a few drinks might turn up that buzz that's fading. Be careful. Xanax will fuck up your shit faster than almost any drug I know.

Taking that much Alprazolam could very quickly escalate into a physiological dependence and/or addiction. Withdrawal from 10 mg + from Xanax could be quite horrific, and the seizures don't sound like fun.

i take 6 to 12 bars at a time and i used to take 10 to 20 but i still think 6 bars is excessive but thats what i have to take with my tolerance
