Benzos Am I in danger of benzo withdrawal?

I've been pretty shocked by a lot of personal accounts on these and other forums about people who use benzos for a short amount of time and end up in a dark place anyway.

Since about late-July/August, I've been using Xanax on and off. I average about 8-10mg a month. If I were to stop completely would I experience withdrawal? My instincts say no, but anecdotal evidence suggests maybe otherwise.

Are you taking a real low dosage, like .25mg a day? Or are you just sporadically using one or twice a week. With short acting benzo's like Xanax, you have to take them pretty much every day for consecutive days, before you'll possibly become dependent. It really depends how you're dosing, if you're taking really large amounts of Xanax, like 10mg, for 3 days in a row, than you have a good chance of facing withdrawal. If you're only taking a mg here and there throughout the month (maybey every 3 days you dose) than you most likely won't have a problem, or at least not a physical one. If you're dosing .25-.5 mg every day, than you also might face withdrawal.

It's really hard to say though, as everyone reacts to drugs differently. I've taken 2mg every day for a month and not experiences withdrawals at one point, and at a later time I did the same thing and did become Dependant. Either way, the only sure way to avoid withdrawals is to take Xanax only once or twice every week.

Oh yeah, it's never more than .5mg at a time, usually .25 every other day. Sometimes I'd take .5mg then go a week without anything, take another .25, maybe .25 the next day too. Never for more than 5 or so days without a break. Always around 9mg a month total.

I've only ever had problems with 1mg or a more day for more than a month, I doubt you'll have any discomfort from physical WD at all, maybe psychological issues only if that much.

Definitely don't keep on doing it every other day because it will probably become a problem at some point, but I think you'll probably not have much of an issue since it was not daily. If you do have an issue, just take like half of your usual 0.25mg dose every third day or something like that.

I used klonopin for 3 months and experienced very minor withdrawals. You may notice a slight amount of anxiety, however I highly doubt it will be enough to keep you locked in your house.

Kid, you'll be fine! You were obviously not abusing the Xanax and are pretty intelligent, given your statement, anecdotal evidence suggests otherwise. Nothing to worry about if you can go a week, because short to intermediate acting benzodiazepines (Xanax) give people withdrawals within 12 to 36 hours of their last dosage, that's if they are hooked.

Good luck bro, keep clean!
