Opioids Am I addicted?

Hi,
I am a 30+ female who has a number of painful diseases (lupus, brain surgery, etc) and I take 5-10mg HC once a day, sometimes twice. I have severe pain sometimes, but not all the time. Lately I have been taking the pills once a day just because I enjoy the high and I get worried when I think about not getting more RX for them. Does this mean I'm addicted? I do legitimately need the meds about once a week but I still take them every day. I also have a few OXY 10 that I take once in a while just for the high. Never more than 1 a day. I don't know anything about addiction, but I'm really worried about WD, having read about them. I would appreciate any info you could give me.
Thanks

Firstly you are building up a tolerance, running out of your script (I assume), getting worried about getting more Rx's and that whole Oxy story.
Secondly, you're addicted or are extremely close to becoming addicted, use your pain meds for pain.

How long have you been taking them? You legitimately need these and don't seem to be abusing your prescription, although I wouldn't go so far as to say your body isn't physically depended, if you're not running out of your prescription a few days after having them filled, you're in decent shape.

IF you can afford not take opiates, don't. They're a horrible, horrible drug to come off of.

I'm prescribed two a day and rarely take that many. They are hydro 5/325. I have leftover oxy 10/something I take maybe twice a month for a high. But I've noticed I get worried when I think about moving and not finding a doc rx them. I went two days without the hydro and was in the worst pain in my life but it could have been the lupus and the drugs had been keeping me pain free. I just don't know.

If you really need them for your pain then take them exactly as prescribed. If you start a cycle of taking them to get high and run out early it turns into a miserable thing to deal with. I used to be in that situation and it took a long time to finally let them go.
You may be one of those though that can control them. Only you will know.

It is EXTREMELY rare for people NOT to get addicted to heavy, euphoric opiates. I have had at least 4 friends who didn't do ANY drugs (not even smoke weed or drink) and they were prescribed opiates for breaking a bone or back injuries......and ended up addicted to OXY....

Totally agree. You here people say they don't get addicted to things, say opiates. That's complete bull in the case of opiates.
Eventually they will if they keep taking them.

I don't drink. Never had a drink. Never addicted to anything. How do I become "unaddicted" and still use it for pain. It is the only thing that helps.

Don't do this.

Just use it for pain and the chances of you becoming addicted are much less.
Don't worry about the "unaddicted" stuff.
If you are prescribed the hydro for pain, then use them only when you are in pain. If there is no pain for a day or more, don't take them.

Don't know what more to say.

Thanks y'all for helping me today. It's really been bothering me. I feel much better. I just needed to hear it from someone who wasn't family and wasn't going to judge me.

Geekess, take them only for pain. Then it is legitimate and you are not the type of addict that junkies are. You may obviously be a little physically addicted, but if you got there by only taking them as DIRECTED by the doctor, then you should not feel guilty

Now like you said, you have started to take them RECREATIONALLY. This starts to turn towards the dark path, so if cut that out, you are in the clear. Plus the doses you are talking about are about opiate virgin level low. People on these boards would kill to have the tolerance you have . Do not lose what you have right now, it will never come back. Use only for legit pain and as directed.

One last question. I haven't taken any since Saturday. I went Sunday and Monday without any. The only effect were some slightly restless legs at night. Does that mean I'm alright? I'm having a lot of pain today and would like to take one for pain but not for any other reason. But now I'm afraid to. I'm sorry I'm bothering you all with this I just don't know who else to ask.

Taking pain meds prescribed or not will eventually lead to a tolerance, meaning more would be need to receive pain relief. Sadly, if you take pain meds sooner or later you will become addicted. To what extent, who knows?

If you are in pain then take your medicine and try to forget about all the "unknowns to you" that could happen, but from what you said above, I really think you need to stop worrying, it'll only make things worse and could also lead to a "self-fulfilled" prophecy.
