I like my benzo's, diazepam & temazepam in particular, but there seems that xanax ie alprazolam holds a special place in the hearts of you yanks. just can't to seem to get hold of it here in the UK for some reason.

So whats it got that the others lack, that 'special magic'?

Xanax is fast acting, but apart from that it's nothing spectacular IMHO. To each his own...

Xanax hits fast and it hits pretty hard. 2mg xanax bars are probably close to the strongest benzo tablets you can easily get which is why they are so popular.

Personally I prefer diazepam to alprazolam. I would even say I like temazepam as much as alprazolam, maybe more, the thing is that where I live you can only get 10mg temaze tablets which are weak as fuck where 2mg xanny bars are reasonably strong.

Well, I'm prescribed alprazolam and not the others, hence making it easiest for me to acquire. Don't get me wrong, for recreational diazepam seems fantastic...xanax just has that beauty of stopping the panic and anxiety in a shorter time period, even though it doesn't last as long. Alprazolam is my first choice for anxiety, but as my dr told me, all patients have a benzo preference and sometimes there's no reason why, people just like one better than another.

I'm in the US clearly, and I will admit that there are lots of obsessed-with-xanax people around here...usually when I mention having a prescription people get extra friendly with me, and my response is usually to go to their own doctor if they legitimately need it for anxiety. While I'm prescribed them, they don't give out large daily doses of benzos to young adults usually, so the supply is somewhat limited.

I am prescribed 2mg xanax tid also 10mg valium bid. This was quite a feat
to get prescribed considrering im also in MMT (resp. failure risk) and
both dr.'s are aware of the meds I take.

Anyhow, the xanax works great for the sudden panic attacks I have all the time, due to its fast acting property. The valium keeps me in a fairly
even, mellow state due to it's long half life. Been on all 3 meds for 7yrs.
now.

Alprazolam is the quickest acting *non-hypnotic oral benzodiazepine. The effects kick in within 10-15 minutes so the effects kick in harder but are short lived. Hence the high abuse potential. The duration of effects are short, almost as low as 3 hours and up to 4 hours at most. Its prescribed mostly for panic attacks due to its quick onset.

In comparison to Diazepam and Temazepam from my own personal experience, Temazepam is much more sedating, also hypnotic and euphoric (the only benzo that produces any sort of euphoria for me). In comparison to Diazepam...I think Valium has great muscle relaxant effects while I don't find in Alprazolam as much. Diazepam is prescribed as an anti-seizure and muscle relaxant for certain drug withdrawals. You probably know that. When it comes down to it, your really not missing much, I'd go for Temazepam or Diazepam over Alprazolam anytime.

There is no evidence that tolerance develops quicker with Alprazolam than other benzodiazepines but I was prescribed it for 4 years and within that period I went from 1.5mg daily to 8mg in just two years. I was told I couldn't go any higher so I remained on that dose for the last couple years. Since the dose wasn't working I switched to Clonazepam.

Alprazolam is a "Triazolobenzodiazepine"; a benzodiazepine analog and triazolobenzodiazepines have very short half lives (3-18 hours) with quick onsets and generally short durations. Triazolam, a hypnotic that belongs to this compound, probably has the quickest onset of any oral benzodiazepine. Its effects can literally kick in within 10 minutes but its duration is within just a couple hours or so. Most triazolobenzodiazepines are used as hypnotics because of their very sedating qualities (Triazolam, Estazolam, Brotizolam) however Alprazolam isn't. It was much more distinguished as an anti-panic, anti-anxiety and anti-depressant benzodiazepine. Another action of Alprazolam, it has anti-depressant qualities!
