After synthesizing a sample of (5ξ)-1,2-O-[2,2,2-Tribromoethylidene]-α-xylo-hexofuranose (Otherwise called 'bromalose', a brominated acetal derivative of glucose, I set about testing this molecule on myself. I weigh 8st 9lbs and had taken no other psychoactive substance in the past 3 days, aside from caffeine that morning and small amounts of nicotine (I smoke home-rolled cigarettes). The time of the experience was 6.00pm. This molecule is not available through chemical suppliers and is pretty much unheard of in scientific literature, so I thought it would be worth giving this true 'research chemical' a try. Judging by analogues such as alpha-chloralose and chloral hydrate, I expected the effects to be CNS depression with alcohol-like stupor, here is the report:

+0.00 Dosed 150mg, the predicted threshold dose in a gel-cap, and waited.
+0.45 Effects similar to the effects of small amounts of alcohol were noted, with a slowing in reaction times, mild to moderate euphoria, and only a slight slowing in heartbeat.
+1.30 A marked stupor was noted, with intricate tasks seeming to require much effort, I found the task of rolling a cigarette to be extremely difficult and a process that usually takes 25 seconds required about ten minutes to complete.
+2.00 Another 100mg was taken and I sat down to watch television.
+3.25 I suddenly looked at the time realizing almost an hour and a half had gone without me noticing! When I got up to use the bathroom (only 5 yards down the hall), I found myself to be in a torpor, similar to that produced after ingesting around 20mg of Diazepam combined with a moderate amount of alcohol.
+11.00(ish)
I woke up slumped against the door in my bathroom with little recollection of the events previous, after managing to crawl to my lounge I found the notebook with notes about the experience regarding the chemical that I'd taken, I then realized why I was crawling around my house early in the morning, feeling a little ashamed, I heaved myself onto the sofa and fell asleep for another six(ish) hours.

There was little hangover from this substance, I couldn't predict it's habit-forming properties since I only took two doses. The best way to describe it would be that the first three hours felt similar to alcohol, with a shot of a strong sedative at about three and a half hours, extreme amnesia, euphoria and loss of co-ordination were noted. Although I weigh very little for my height, the potency of this compound seems very high relative to Chloral Hydrate and Chloretone. Long-term effects on the body are not yet known, even though I could see some potential for recreational use/use as a sleep-aid or anti-anxylotic, in my opinion this chemical should stay as a chemical in the laboratory as it could have a whole host of side effects which are not yet known.

: O

interesting... although torpor doesn't sound so great, I am not sure what recreational side there is to stupefication / paralysis / amnesia ?

Doesn't sound very safe tbh, but interesting in the name of science, if not necessarily HR. (For one, I would have titrated the dosage)

Some 'trip reports' of the early sedatives similar to this (eg. Chloral Hydrate and the like) seem to report a similar "Chemical sledgehammer to-the-head" effect that I experienced, I would also expect tolerance to build up in the same manner as alcohol tolerance.

Yes a friend has tried homemade chlorobutanol with that similar effect, it seems interesting as a project at first but in the end I wanna believe there is a reason why these are old school, or used as rodenticides. Not that I always care about labels, having someone nag about ketamine being a vet tranquillizer is always terribly lame to me.

Yeah I hate when people look down on you if you mention using ketamine... "dude that's a horse tranquilizer, I wouldn't touch that". It's also the safest human anesthetic. It doesn't mean you're some sketchy asshole for using it.

In terms of easy, effective homemade sedatives with reasonable safety margins, Chlorobutanol (brand name Chloretone) is, as people who say 'the bomb' would say; 'the bomb', as long as it's not used nightly, I prefer using something like 750mg Chloral Hydrate instead of the Z-drugs (crap) which they now prescribe for insomnia.
