Allergic to opium?

This may be a stupid question, but I don't know the answer so don't yell at me.
Anyway, let me give you a little background before I get to my question. A couple of years ago(2 or 3) a good friend of mine tore his acl and mcl and he had to have complete reconstructive surgery on his right knee. Well, during the course of the surgery they gave him morphine and he had an allergic reaction to it.
Fast Forward to yesterday...he calls me and tells me he can get a good deal on opium. He has never smoked opium before. Due to his allergic reaction to morphine would it be safe to say that if he smoked opium he would have an allergic reaction to it also?
 
Have you bothered to find out what the active chemicals are in opium? Erowid? poppies.org? Yes, there is morphine and a host of other drugs in opium. If he is in the US it is unlikely that he will be getting pure opium anyway. The chances of getting heroin are good. Heroin cruses into your brain and becomes morphine. Just like hydocodone, etc etc.....if he had a bad reaction chances are good it will happen again.
 
There is an EXTREMELY good chance that your friend, if he is allergic to morphine, would be allergic to ALL OPIATES, including: codeine, opium, heroine, hydrocodone (vicoden), and many other pharaceuticals.
Opiate allergy is a BIG DEAL -- it can cause a person to go into a coma or even die. One of my best friends is allergic to opiates and she almost died when given morphine as a child for surgery -- and it scared her so much that she didn't even consider smoking weed for years and years.
I really, really don't think your friend should touch ANY OTHER OPIATES ever.
 
thanks for the info guys, I will definitely advise that he not do any opiates in the future. he will be very disappointed. In the meantime, i guess I have to find someone else to smoke it with! Thanks again.
