Is this normal? The fact that alcohol depresses my respiratory system more than like 200-225mg codeine?
I know codeine isn't considered a strong opiate, but it's the only opiate i've done.
But to get this straight, 'cause i don't know for sure, but i feel a pressure in my chest and a little bit in the back as well when i drink alcohol, doesn't have to be a lot of alcohol, 'cause i don't get drunk to get really fucking wasted, i just drink a little so i get a little drunk.
I'm sensitive to depressant drugs, i'm 5'8-9, weigh around 145lbs and male.
So i guess my question is, does alcohol depress the RS more than codeine normally or is it just for a small amount of people? Any cations i should think of?

never heard about anything like that, my throat is on the guillotine, anyone is free to prove me ignorant :)

I would have to assume (so dont take my word for it) that 200+mgs of codeine will produce more respiratory depression than a few shots of alcohol. There are some people who dont metabolize codeine very efficiently due to a lack of necessary enzymes. do you get sufficent effects from your codeine doses (i.e. euphoria, pupil constriction, itchiness, drowsiness)? if not then you might have this enzyme deficiency (sp?). but other than that, what is the alcohol content of your booze and how often do you drink compared to how often you use codeine?

At the right dose, codeine works very well in relieving a tight chest, and therefore helps respiration.
IME any amount of alcohol tightens my chest and that is one of the reasons I am not a drinker.
I also don't take 200+mgs of codeine.
But as a medicine for tight chests and dry coughs, codeine does the job.

So to answer your question, IME yes, millilitre for millilitre, alcohol will cause more respiratory depression than codeine - which would actually relieve the res dep at the right dose.

It's very, very hard to be aware of respiratory depression. Especially when intoxicated. Chances are you're just freaking yourself out. Feeling pressure on chest/back isn't really a sign of respiratory depression.

And yes, alcohol is a CNS depressant aka downer obviously
