I'm looking for a replacement for alcohol that can be used every day like alcohol, or a combination of drugs. Benzos are great, but tolerance builds too quickly. Ecstasy is great too, but really can't be used every day. Pot is fine, but it just doesn't have that "nothing else matters" narcotic euphoric rush that I get from alcohol.

I drink about 1/2 a bottle of vodka on workdays and about 1/2 of a handle each day on the weekends. I'm looking for a drug or a combo or an alternating pattern of drugs (to avoid tolerance) that will make me feel as good as drinking that can be used daily.

Thanks for your help.

Not a lot comes to mind. The best thing I can think to suggest is kava. Though there are issues of liver toxicity, so you want to be sure not to use it in combination with drinking.

Kava has similar effects to benzodiazepine medications, including muscle relaxant, anaesthetic, anticonvulsive and anxiolytic effects. They are thought to result from direct interactions of kavalactones with voltage-gated ion channels. Research currently suggests kavalactones potentiate GABAA activity, but do not alter levels of dopamine and serotonin in the CNS. It is thought to do this via modulating GABA activity via altering the lipid membrane structure and sodium channel function. However, it has also been shown that administration of the GABA antagonist Flumazenil does not have an antagonistic effect on kavalactones, suggesting that an alternative pathway may be involved. Heavy, long-term kava use does not cause any reduction of ability in saccade and cognitive tests, but is associated with elevated liver enzymes. (source)

I would do everything I could to seriously cut back on the vodka. Maybe if you switch it up between a few things it might be healthier than 1/2 a bottle per day, or using anything daily. Maybe kratom, benzos, ghb, and alcohol. Then there would at least be a 4 day rotation, which should fight of dependency at least for a good while longer than using one thing daily. You may want to consider talking to a doctor about the substance abuse, as mentioned above.

doesnt this clearly qualify as a what should i take thread?

anyway at 1/2 of vodka per day we re clearly in alcoholoism territory. please talk to a professional as thats the best thing to do for your health...

Thanks for the responses. The only issue is that all of these work on your GABA receptors. Can anyone come up with a euphoric sedative that doesn't mediate its effects through the gamma-Aminobutyric acid system in the brain? One thing I have been looking into is low dose ketamine. I did a little research and it seems that k may actually reverse tolerance to benzos and other GABAs. This drinking is killing me. I feel myself dying slowly every day. I have a very strong will and have quit drinking for years at a stretch, but the intense craving never really seems to go away.

When people ask me if I'm addicted to a certain substance, I always say no. I am addicted to altered states of consciousness; I am addicted to being fucked up, rather than being addicted to a specific drug. I even meditate and have learned lucid dreaming and OBE, I've taken super-massive doses of LSD, etc. The point being, my favorite drugs are psychedelics and downers, but downers all seem to be GABAs.

I'm thinking of alternating benzos and ketamine because it's the best option I've been able to come up with.

So, I guess my main question is this:Are there any non-GABA sedatives that I could look into to. I'm desperate to stop drinking, and like I said, I have a strong enough will to just stop drinking, but I've come to the realization that I will never be drug free and I'm looking to reduce the harm of my excessive drinking.

There are tons of sedatives and downers, but few will have the high that you're looking for. Most of them just make the user groggy, and then there's opiates which i would advise against in your situation.

Exercise, eat healthy, sleep well. Maybe smoke a little weed once in a while (if you like it). If you do drink after a long break, keep it to two-three beers. When I do drink (which isn't often at all) I feel the need to chug a pint or more, but I noticed if I just have two or three steel reserves I have a nice little buzz going.

Steel Reserves are about 2x as strong as normal beer, obviously drinking a 5-6 beer equivalent will be better than chugging a pint. It contains way more alcohol.

...there is no way that two 8 oz. steel reserves are as strong as 375 ml of 40% alch. That's like ten shots.....

GHB would be the best alcohol alternative. Feels like almost exactly like alcohol and is much less toxic. Only problem is that's it's illegal and has that whole date rape drug stigma going for it. Oh yes, don't take more than 2 doses in a 24h period if you don't want to get addicted to it.

If you have the will to stop drinking then you already know the answer really. Titrate down slowly and safely. Then stay far far away. I would recommend creating a thread over in the dark side for further support with this.

As for the notion that you will never be drug free, well that's your call, however bL isn't here to suggest ways to help facilitate a state of altered consciousness / being fucked up. Closed. PM any questions.
