Hi I recently stopped a forced prescribed dosage of Haloperidol injections which caused moderate Akathisia. I've been detoxing from it for 5 weeks now & still get akathisia symptoms about 3 times a week.

I am using Valium to manage the akathisia symptoms but I don't take it for more than 2 days at a time & have been using Cannabis & Amphetamines to treat the akathisia myself, they work really well but I'm not sure why & don't want to take amphetamines for long term.

I'm scared this akathisia is going to be permanent & the best solution I have is Cannabis...

Does anyone have any information about how Cannabis & Amphetamines are effective for akathisia & why it helps?

I do not but I have some comments. Before I go on I want to say that I've been to a similar situation. I know how shitty it is for people to insist that I take a medication that may reduce my fears, but which also deadens myself significantly.

How much haldol were you on?

Valium is known for lasting a very long time before your body excretes it. This may be over 200 hours. So, one would need frequent breaks to ensure that no dependence is created. Ativan is usually the go-to for situational, as-needed medication like that. However, there are non-addictive agents like artane or propranolol that may help just the same. I was on a hefty dose of artane at one point, and it worked. Getting off it was a cinch. Also, visteral is a good one, but more so for anxiety.

Cannabis is not at all the substance to be using at a time like this, and given how serious a medication haldol is and how they went the extra mile to ensure that you take it. Please just understand that you are taking a great risk of relapse if you use weed. This isn't me trying to play doctor, though it may sound like it, but it's about what is likely possible if you continue with marijuana use. You are going to use what you want to in the end. I don't want it to turn into an arms race with them giving you higher and higher haldol doses while you continue to smoke. Haldol is remarkably good for aggression, but it can be tough on the brain. They must have thought it necessary.

Amphetamine is similar. Highly advised to not take amphetamines at this point.

I'd take a long look at the future and help yourself out. It's a very serious situation. No offense meant. We will stay cordial, but this is also about Mental Health here.

Invega still gets me in my legs. It feels like your blood is boiling. Haldol is very bad for Akisthisa. Any drug has a tendency to do that. Chill down your spineS

I had 2 Wacks off invega 6 years ago, paliperidone induced parkinsomism. spreading muscle rigidity till the point ime bed ridden and cant walk because off invega.
That is horrendous!! We have a thread dedicated to Invega recovery stories, feel free to check it out and post your experiences in there.
