First of all I would like to state that prolonged use of inhalants can lead to serious neurological damage and other health problems. I would strongly advise you to avoid them, but if you're like me and curiosity gets the best of you, please be careful.

Well around the time I got into altering my state of consciousness, I came across this thing on erowid that said:
Our understanding of the literature is that there is no such thing as safe use of most volatile solvents, aerosols or other street inhalants : their psychoactive effects may be inseparable from nerve and organ damage.

After seeing that and hearing stories about people seriously hurting themselves, ruining their lives, and "becoming mentally retarded" from huffing things such as spray paint and computer duster, I decided not to touch inhalants.

Well now let's flash forward a little bit. It's the present day: and I love nitrous oxide. I know to use it in moderation because of B12 depletion and merry prankster's story, but needless to say: It is amazing. Well it was the weekend and I had indulged in some nitrous use and enjoyed it greatly. Someone started telling me about air duster, and how it apparently felt similar to nitrous.

Similar to N20 you say? Sounds intriguing. However, I remembered that warning from erowid and decided to stay the fuck away from it like I had been doing. A few days later I was in my house thinking about that last whippet I did when suddenly I spot: computer duster . Being really bored and missing nitrous I decided, aw what the hell, why not?

So I put the can to my mouth and inhale. Nothing. Do it again and: Holy Shit this is kind of like nitrous! My head was heavy, I felt good, I felt myself slowly drifting to a peaceful blackout. But then: I started coming down. Well I'll hit it again, but this is it. Inahle deeply. Inhale again. Again. Again. Annnnd again. Feeeeling really goood. Drifting away into uncosciousness... Strange visuals appearing on things... Sounds amplified.... Auditory hallucinations...Stumbling around....and now coming down. Fuck it again, but this time I'm done. Saaame as before feeling great....Coming down...*sigh* I'll hit it again!!!!! Repeat about four times.

Coming down. I'll hit it again...NO YOU WON'T!!!!!!!!! STOP HUFFING THIS SHIT YOU DUMBASS!!! Ah sweet will power finally came through. I finally put the can down and left it (it wasn't even empty!:)). I thought to myself, "I like this feeling, I like it alot. But this shit is terrible for you. Why do the good things have to be so bad???"

So how similar is it to nitrous? Well I say the sedation is there, and even a little bit stronger. Visuals? Similar. Voice? Deeper. Lack of coordination? More pronounced. Euphoria? Well it's there, but it's just a different kind than nitrous, I just don't really know how to describe it. Fiending? Most definitely there. Thought process? WAY WAY WAY different.

I consider nitrous to be a very useful tool for mind expansion and spiritual and personal development (especially when combined with psychedelics). When I inhale nitrous, it alters my state of thinking, it does not impair it. Duster on the other hand, stops all thinking. The only thing going through your head is, "Whooooooooaaaaaa maaaaannnn everything is alll slooow." I can not imagine it being used for any other purpose than getting "totally fuckkkdddd upppp maaan".

Now that my curiousity has been satisfied, I will hopefully never touch duster again. Before I ever smoked a cigarrette, I had been curious about the effects of nicotine despite the obvious health problems that come along with smoking. I smoked a cigarrette, got slightly buzzed and thought, "This is pointless, weed is way better," and never smoked one again. Hopefully it will be that way with duster, but the thing is: unlike nicotine, I really liked it. So I know that it will be much more difficult to avoid it.

Oh and by the way, this only happened a few hours ago. I also stole some of my mother's hydrocodone while under the influence, which I am on now. Look, I love you guys, so that's why I put this report up here. I would highly recommend NOT to do air duster. I love you so much so peace and stay safe :)<3:)<3:)<3:)

Moderator's Note:

Inhaling computer duster can cause sudden death or permanent brain damage from one use. Inhalants are without doubt the most dangerous recreational chemicals in existence.

Oh man that air-duster, I don't mess with this anymore. That shit makes me lose conciousness and makes my stomach hurt after a while. THis is almost identical to ether.

You are dead wrong, it is closer to huffing refrigerant, freon, the shit in your air conditioner. Nothing like ether. IMO ether and n2o are the only inhalants that can be safely used. Poppers suck too

Hmm ether... I've always been intrigued by it(mainly because of Fear and Loathing)... Are there any safe sources for it? The only way I've heard of getting it is extracting it from starter fluid, and apparently that still doesn't remove all the bad shit.

The hexane in starter fluid is negligible, and I think huffing starter fluid is probably as healthy as huffing straight diethyl ether. You probably get more hexane from inhaling gasoline fumes while pumping gas into your car.

Note: I am basing this on my recall of the ingredients list saying like 99% ether, 1% hexane. Wikipedia says most brands are only 40-60% diethyl ether!

^Not according to erowid anyway.... Yeah I'm pretty sure most starter fluids don't contain 99% ether... But I guess there is a chance that some obsucre brand could. Do you know of any easily obtainable sources of pure diethyl ether?

I did ether in the form of starter fluid.. I felt a lot of similarities to air-duster.
1. same type of ringing in the ears
2. same vibrating feeling
3. losing conciousness on occasion same way
Though starter fluid felt more damaging to my body then air-duster. The ringing in my ears lasted much longer, I got stomach cramps after a while, and my short term memory was gone for the rest of the night.

I dont think BL should even allow inhalant trip reports.

Glorifying brain damage imo....

even short term use of these can be devastating.

How am I glorifying brain damage? I even stated that inhalants are dangerous in the title of the thread. I think that inhalant trip reports should be allowed as long as the op is aware of the risks.

I'm totally not knocking the OP here - I just want that out of the way. This was a well written trip report and he was certainly not condoning the use of the inhalants by anyone.

But since we're on the topic... To me, inhalants like this are below freebasing crack. For the damage that this kind of shit does to your brain, why not use a real drug? I mean if you are going to fuck your mind over completely, why not go out in a blaze of glory on a mega molly bender or something... I will just never understand this because the brain damage to reward ratio, to me, is completely fucked.

I did straight starter fluid... here's some harm reduction: these inhalants more or less deprive your brain of oxygen as well as brain cells, use with caution. =]

i did duster once back in 10th grade. there were 4 of us there. i was the third to hit the bottle of duster. i was standing up, hit the bottle, fell over, and fell in the water. luckily, one guy had not done it yet and was able to get my head out of the water and prevent me from drowning. if i had gone last, i might actually be dead right now. never again.....

I was huffing this shit while driving and ended up plowing into tree at 50mph.......shattered my hip, couldn't walk for months.......had weird visual distortions in the dark at the hospital, body just felt completely fucked........So yea never again. I value my life/brain to much to be fucking with that shit. Good report though, it is a super-fiendish drug. Once you pop, the fun don't stop.

Well mainly because molly isn't just sitting around in my house. I just saw the can, I was bored, and I thought why not. Unfortunately, I have used it since I wrote this report, but luckily the can ran out (it was about 1/4 of the way full when I first picked it up).

The first time I did it, there weren't any severe physical consequences. Every other time, I would get very sick to my stomach at the end of the huffing session. I am completely done with air duster, and I sincerely mean it. I would encourage all of you not to try it. Please just use nitrous oxide instead. It's alot more fun, you can actually gain something from it, and it is nowhere near as bad for you as this horrible shit(but remember: everything in moderation). The only reason I used duster was boredom, and I learned the hard way that boredom can lead to stupidity.

The kids (just younger fellas) who I used to get supplied from (caps lsd shrooms) all ended up going way deeper than me with the substance abuse. around the time they started breaking into outdoor air conditioners and stealing the freeon and putting it in garbage bags to huff in groups... I stopped chilling with them and found some older more level headed connections.

in a video they made one kid just hit the ground. drooled and convulsed then snapped back into it and said "I thought we were playing baseball?!"

freaked me right out that they chase this high

A friend of mine sitting next to me just said something of the same sort; I totally see that point of view but I also believe that reports for terrible drugs like these shouldn't be discriminated against. Especially because at the end of (this report specifically), the user says they wont touch it again. That shows other posters it isn't worth it. I can count on one hand (and no higher) how many duster reports have actually been from people who say that they loved it and will continue to use it. Usually those users won't even post about their experiences because they use it commonly and it's no big deal to them.
