I'm sure most if not al of you have seen Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and I'm sure this question has popped up before but I haven't seen it yet (I'm a newbee... see Greenlighter (oh and by the way what designates a blue lighter from greenlighter? how does that system work?)) And I'm sorry if I'm being redundent.
In the move they take something called adrenochrome and I've read about it before on a web page so I'm guessing it's a real thing but there are doubts about weather or not it's psychoactive. Does anyone have any info on this?

Yes, Adrenochrome is a real substance.
No, It will *not* make you tr1p nu7z.

I'm not sure if I know exactly what i'm talking about, so if i'm wrong feel free to correct me. In a past thread on adrenochrome, I believe someone posted a link stating that adrenochrome was a adrenaline-like substance, that produced adrenaline-like effects.

ADRENOCHROME SEMICARBAZONE -- 3-hydroxy-1-methyl-5,6-indolinedione
semicarbazone.
Material: Oxidized eniephrine (adrenaline) with semicarbazide.
Usage: 100 mg is thoroughly dissolved in just enough alcohol,
melted fat (butter), or vegetable oil and ingested. Because of its
poor solubility in water these must be used to aid absorption.
Effects: Physical stimulating, feeling of well-being, slight
reduction of thought processes.
Contraindications: None noted. Acts as a systemic hemostatic
preventing capillary bleeding during injury. Adrenochrome causes
chemically induced schizophrenia. Its semicarbazone does not.
its amazing what you find with search engines

"Adrenochrome causes
chemically induced schizophrenia. "
thats what people used to say about LSD and other hallucinogens before they were known to be hallucinogens and to have a specific effect and not just "making you crazy", the word Psychotomimetic means it mimics the effects of psychosis, meaning in part it causes hallucinations, strange thought processes, delerium, etc..... i bet adrenochrome is in fact active, let me ask this, HOW MANY OF US HAVE TRIED IT?
see?
The semicarbazone is aparently not the one you want, but it states right there that the base compound (probably in basic form) is a psychotomimetic agent.
One possible explanation is that in some studies, the gene pool was not looked over before test subject selection, in one, they list a woman with previous dementia and psychosis, and adrenochrome caused a serious episode apparently.
In any case, it would be so intense and hard to integrate you might actually cause a serious mental break, and never be the same, or, in the worst case, you would bring some mental flaw out VIA same mechanism as LSD does, and cause yourself to be so incoherant and psychotic you may end up in a mental ward,

~The Recreational Pharmacist (Ketamike)
I have never belonged wholeheartedly to country or State, to my circle of friends or even to my own family...
Such isolation is sometimes bitter, but I do not regret being cut off from the understanding and sympathy of other men.
I lose something by it,to be sure, but I am compensated for it in being rendered independent of the customs,
opinions and prejudices of others, and am not tempted to rest my peace of mind upon such shifting foundations.

Yeah, like TheTripDoctor said, the report that it causes chemically-induced schizophrenia is false, based on the urine test of a woman who really was schizophrenic or something. Early information on adrenochrome is pretty shady, it seems that most recent research indicates it wouldn't have a whole lot of use as a drug :P
You can thank Hunter S. Thompson for propagating the myth though, I'm sure we haven't seen the last of the adrenochrome threads.
