Hi Everyone! I'm a new member but have used the site for a long time and now feel like I have a question that you guys will be able to answer.
I was diagnosed with ADD or ADHD or whatever they call it now as a teen and was put on Adderall IR, 20mg in the morning and 20mg in the early/mid afternoon. It worked really well and to be honest I really enjoyed the buzz I got for the first hour or so after taking it. From what I read, that usually happens more with IR than XR. But now I'm in college in another state and my new doctor feels that XR may be a better option for me, mostly because I was complaining about how crappy I feel at the end of the day and in between doses. Plus I'm forgetful and it would be nice to take a pill and be done with it.
From reading up on XR, my impression is that if I take 1 20mg XR, it's like getting a dose of 10mg IR now, and another 10mg dose ~4 hours later. Does that mean that if I want to feel that same 20mg IR buzz, using XR capsules, I'd have to take TWO 20mg capsules at once? I admitted to my doc that when I take IR, I feel most "productive" during the first hour or so, and I would hate to lose that feeling to some gently-released XR. (By productive I meant buzzed, but that buzzed feeling also makes me very productive, so oh well
)
So if I want to feel the same on XR as I do on IR, will I need to be taking 2 20mg XR capsules? Thereby giving me a 20mg initial dose, and then another 20mg dose 4 hours later? Or would that be too much? I don't wanna take more than necessary, believe it or not.
Another question, for all you XR users out there: That second wave of activity that occurs four hours later, when the extended-release parts dissolve..is it like "oh man I feel like I just swallowed another tablet" or is it just kinda like a wimpy continuation of how I feel 2-3 hours after taking IR?
Thanks!!!
