Does anyone know of a person being prescribed Adderall (dextroamphetamine-amphetamine)
In Australia?

When I think of Adderall I think of American college students or US reality show star's like the real housewives of Beverly Hills who benifit from the more lax American user pays health care system/pharmaceutical industry

Does anyone in Australia actually get access to this type of medication?

Ritalin is common here but Adderall??

No, Adderall is not a prescription drug in Australia.

I had a batch of pills years ago with the AD|30 press, 90% sure they were just meth pills though (fakes).

We don't have adderall which is equal parts of both amphetamine isomers but we have dexamphetamine which is pure d-amphetamine.

Which is not impossible if you have a good psychiatrist, good relationship with them, and actually have ADHD. Know that they give some people Vyvanse/Lisdexamfetamine, which is a substance converted to dexamphetamine by your digestive system. Which means it is only active orally. If you planned to abuse/shoot these, they would do zero of anything at all, as by bypassing the stomach, it bypasses the only chance for it to become the stimulant it's meant to be. None of this is a problem for me though, because I really have no desire to abuse them. I seriously doubt it would be enjoyable anyway!

It's a shame they don't have Vyvanse here in Australia, because that could allow people who do have ADHD to try something that has much lower abuse potential than the fast-acting medications.

I won't even bother with Strattera because I know it's just Edronax that is slightly modified for more potent noradrenaline reuptake inhibition and slower action. I know that it's not even a true ADHD medication anyway, it's a modified phenyl anti-depressant amine.

There are only two classes of ADHD meds - Piperidines (Ritalin) and amphetamines (Dex/Vyvanse/Adderal,etc).

Vyvanse is available in Australia now. Only up to 30 milligrams and I believe there are certain regulations around prescribing it (like you had to be diagnosed with ADHD before your adult years or some such shit).

vvyanse is extreme abuse potential. I had 70 mg vyyanse from a american who bought a few months with them on holiday I bought a bunch and it was by the best pharma stimulant out there i would stay up for days popping them grinding stuff out. Vvyanse is the best for adhd though.

I'm in Victoria, but things should be the same throughout Australia.

Vyvanse can be prescribed for adult ADHD but will only be covered by PBS if you were diagnosed when under 18. If you were diagnosed as an adult you will have to pay full price which is around $40 for a bottle of 30 capsules of 30mg.
You can be prescribed up to 60mg a day but if you need a higher dose your doc has to get authorization from some regulating authority, (can't remember which one)

The diagnosis and initial prescription must come from a psychiatrist. Once you work out the best dose for you ,your GP must apply for an "authority", (this only takes 10 minutes or so which is completely amazing to me!) Once your GP has the authority they can give you a script with 5 repeats which can be used in any state.

You can't fill your repeats until about a week before you run out and it will be on your repeat stating "Can't be filled before blah blah blah date) or "if you need to refill before a certain date please speak with your pharmacist"
In other words if you gobble up a 30 day supply in 10 days you can't get any more until that date.

This is pretty much the same for dexamphetamine except you don't need to have been diagnosed as a child in order to get govt, to cover the cost. They're only available in 5mg strength so when you get the script filled you'll be given a massive amount of pills which, for me is 300.

300 pills per month? That's a considerable amount. I thought they were limited to a months supply.

I plan on seeing a psych but I would want to start on the lowest dose possible because this is strong stuff.

I get as much d-Amphetamin as I need. It's so funny how different this is. I had a time when I needed 15 mg each and they just did it. Now I have capsules with 7,5 mg each - I don't understand why your Psychiatrist is not giving you more than 5 mg each, because (little OT) it is a fucking annyoing job for your pharmacist to prepare all the capsules, too. Or do you have pills?

My psych says firstly that people with genuine ADD/adhd don’t develop; tolerance so I shouldn’t need any more. He also says he’s only legally allowed to prescribe up to 30mg without a second opinion from independent psych anyway.

vyvanse up to 70mg is prescribed in Australia, and has been for at least 4 years probably more. 30mg seems to be the most common, 50mg is uncommon and 70mg is rare. from what I hear, some doctors are more willing to prescribe it than dexies because it has 'less abuse potential'.

love the stuff but god, my usual recreational dose of 60-90mg lasts at least 16 hours if not 20 or more, compared to 12 hours with dexies. so much more impractical for recreational use.

People with adhd can build up tolerance same as anyone else. Some of the nonsence some specialists come out with…. one has to wonder what actual qualifications they have gained and how much of their adhd specific learning is based on: up to date, proven evidence supported by studies and physiological evidence submitted by well known institutions to reputable medical journals? It seems like a lot of adhd prescribing is based more on ignorance and fear (omg my patient wants SPEED!!) rather than what the evidence shows. I guess it is that sort of fear mongering and nonsences that necessitates forums like this one in the first place

When it comes to any drug with an impact on neurotransmitters, especially energy, empathy, and mood…most governments and institutions seem far more eager to act on unproven (and often disproven) fear rather than base decisions on scientifically proven evidence along with what is best for the people the decisions will impact.

My niece has been recently diagnosed at 13 yrs and when her medication was not working. My sister asked about other options and her dr told my sister, it eas not worth trying any other stimulants because she will be 18 in a few years and adults dont have adhd….so she wint need any adhd meds soon….like wtf? how is this person even qualified to prescribe with that level of ignorance?

the drs opinion is despite an overwhelming tsunami of evidence that adhd persists into adulthood, and that its effects are at least as severe if not more for an adult. Evidence i believe is widely accepted within the medical profession, but apparentlymthere are still doctors that ignorant allowed to impact the lives of children and adolescents…
Surely people prescribing these medications should be required to be a little better educated, or at least keep up with the basic advances that have been generally accepted by medical science as a whole??

needless to say my sister is now looking for a better dr for her daughter…
