Im 18 and a guy and I've been prescribed adderall for 3 years but I only took and it when I had school and now that I'm done with school I only take it when I work. I always took only 20mg until recently got my dose upped to 20ir and 20xr a day because I work 12 hour shifts and I need it to last longer. I have noticed that It makes it easier to get scared by sudden loud noises but it has never really been that bad and I never saw it as an issue. Until recently it has been happening a lot. I work in a warehouse with constant forklift beeping and just constant loud bangs and I get that frightened jump feeling all day long. Even once I'm home and off work if I'm sitting near a family member and they talk out of no where it frightens me a little. It feels like my ears wiggle when it happens(I'm not 100% sure if they do i think it might just be my eardrum moving) and i jump sometimes but it's mostly just my head that shakes. Also my ears get really red and my cheeks get a little red. We have 60+ employees that I pass by all day and I'm pretty sure they notice it. It's super embarrassing and I want to fix it asap. Does anyone else have this issue and have any suggestions on what I should do to fix it

Yea I had the same thing happen to me before on addy. I don't take it daily (mostly recreationally), so it wasn't problematic for me.

I think the explanation behind this is the "fight or flight" response thats triggered by adderall in your system. Basically, "fight or flight" means that your CNS is stimulated and your brain instinctively perceives loud noises as danger.

Here's a list of natural supplements that may help:

Magnesium Chelate: can help with shakes and other side effects like restlessness and teeth grinding. Also slightly helps with tolerance.

L-theanine: Occurs naturally in green tea and counteracts the side effects of caffeine stimulation. I personally find its effects pretty mild, but it seems to work very well for alot of people.

Valerian Root: Mild relaxant and anxiolytic. I usually take it in high doses for comedown and sleep.

From those 3 supplements I recommend you to take Magnesium daily (before sleep) and take L-theanine whenever u need during work.

It's interesting that u mentioned a pill that counteracts caffeine because now that I think about it I actually drank a redbull before work a few weeks ago and I think the day I drank it was the first time the problem was really bad. That was also my first time drinking redbull and I've been drinking them a couple times before work since then. I think that actually might be the problem. I also down them in literally 5 minutes lmao. But sometimes it will still bother me mid way through the day almost 24 hours after I've taken it

I've had the same shit happen to me on adderall. Scare the shit out of a fella lol. I guess being focused enough makes it easy to be startled?

I guess. But I know when loud noises are going to happen at work and I'm expecting them and it still makes my ears and my head twitch.

So good, I came here to suggest the same things. L-theanine will even work to help with sleep. I buy the neuro drinks at work, but I still blush super easily and get scared by noises but not as much. I think for me sometimes it's because I get in my head and get quiet and forget there are other people around me.

Don't do that! I started having a lot of problems when I mixed caffeine. I was taking a 20 or 30 mg ER in the morning and a bunch of 5 or 10 immediate release every few hours. Totaling 60 mg a day. When I had caffeine I felt like I might actually die.

Ahh. Yea I just don't get it. I used to only get frightened by noises every once in a while at work and I was ok with that but now it's every noise. Someone yelled my name really loud on the first day I tried drinking redbull before work and it scared me really bad and I jumped really bad I'm pretty sure like 5 people saw it happen it made me almost want to cry. I think that might have to do with why every noise scares me now

Yea redbull might have definitely contributed to your problem. I'm 18 as well and I've been using adderall on and off for 2 years (not prescribed). Caffeine by itself doesn't do shit to me. I can fall asleep literally right after downing a redbull. Since I developed tolerance to adderall, caffeine never gives me any positive effects anymore. (only diarrhea and restlessness in high doses). Nicotine has a much better synergy with addy IMO.

Regardless of caffeine use, I still recommend getting Chelated Magnesium and taking it daily before bed. Its very beneficial if you're on adderall.

OP: Sounds like you might have some anxiety issues. I have a terrible panic disorder and without my xanny bars (legally RXd), I'd go crazy. I'm very sensitive to any speedy, uppy type drugs, so I would freak the fuck out in your shoes, even if at home. At work I would be curled into a ball in the corner, eating Roxy and Xanax, and maybe some IV smack, praying for it to stop. I'd be mighty careful with those amps man. They can lead to stimulant induced psychosis and they are hell on your heart. @ Smaashley, I like your screen name. A good friend of mine was dubbed "Smashley" (his name is Ashley) by me because of the way he pounds his drums, so it's kinda ironic to see that name here.

That's the boat I'm in. I have severe anxiety and ADHD so treating them both together when NO doctor here will prescribe anxiety meds let alone ADHD meds is hard. No primary's really do, only specialists at mental health places that are hard to get into. I feel like taking all these meds are worse than just having a panic attack a couple times a month.

Hey guys, I just realized that we have two duplicate threads here. I'm going to close this one. It's not because I don't want you to have your answers, but I think you'll have better luck finding the right information if we streamline the process by condensing this into the one thread.
