sucked in you pervert
ok, i am a fairly firm subscriber to the old "tums" or "mylanta" or antacid or whatever just prior to dropping. I think it allows less acidic destruction of the pill in the stomach's acid.
But my thirst for bloody useless trivia (with which i like to startle thoroughly disineterested females at cocktail parties with) has led me to this little gem. "An asprin tablet is 40% more effective if it is consumed with a cup of hot chocolate than with a glass of water."
What's all that about? Does the milk "line the stomach" as it is often claimed to do wrt drinking alcohol? Does the milk help to decrease the acidity? Is this more Pro-Milk propaganda from Left wing separatist Dairy Groups?
I can just see the next meetup with all the Bluelighters quaffing down their Milo and choc milks.

Hmmmmmmm......boobies and consumtion of milk as the basis of a thread?
Methinks there's something you're not telling us about your childhood, pinger.
(And i'm not sure we really want to hear it, either)

Most Health resources recommend that aspirin be taken with a full glass of water. Aspirin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), which many OTC pain relievers contain. They have associated side effects such as stomach irritation and at higher doses more serious effects. Aspirin can also be taken with milk, food or antacid to ease any stomach upset that is experienced. However, there are also enteric-coated aspirin available which are formulated to be gentler on the stomach, and these should not be taked with antacid. Also, these coated aspirin shouldn't be chewed (because that makes the coating kind of beside the point).
I am not sure about the "40% more effective" part though, or how that data was achieved.
Just for another trivia point on this pain reliever (not by any means new research, but interesting nonetheless):
ASPIRIN USE DURING PREGNANCY/CHILD INTELLIGENCE QUOTIENT/ATTENTION DEFICIT
Children of women who take aspirin during the first half of pregnancy have been shown to have lower I.Q. scores and attention deficits. Previous studies have shown excess aspirin use during pregnancy to be associated with oral clefts, both major and minor anomalies, and central nervous system defects. Lower doses have been shown to reduce learning ability and produce overactivity.

I think its the hot (as in hot chocolate or hot water) that's important.
People are often recommended to take
tablets with hot water. I gather this increases the absorption rate.
Asprin also thin the blood.

here is a crude picture for all those that wanted boobies

eds-hed, what art school did you go to? I'm very impressed with your work.
pinger, is this mylanta thing based on your own intuition or do you have some factual evidence to back up your theory? And, have you noticed any difference between when you have some before dropping & when you don't?

Actually lots of people I know enjoy eating QuikEze while they're peaking to quell the upset stomach feeling that a hit of strong MDMA will do to your stomach (and MDMA is very caustic).
Grapefruit juice is good pre-load because it contains an enzyme which slows down the metabolism of MDMA, which means it stays in your system longer.

actually sunni I am still at RMIT, doing my last year of Gold and Silversmithing, my studio is basically underneath the wet-music venue...but you were only being funny weren't you *sigh*

Smurf, I'm just gonna call you 'P-boy' from now on. Pills & Porn. Pills & Porn. That's all it is with you. If you're not munching pills, you're sending vast amounts of porn across the internet. Oh well, I guess you've gotta have some variety in your life hey?

well i thought the grapefruit juice thing was because it has an enzyme that helps it to cross the blood brain barrier... it's a pity deep has been scared away by the fluff on the main board....
and to answer sunni's question- it makes sense to me that it (antacids) should make a difference. In other discussions about acidity there is always talk of pills being broken down in the stomach acid and losing efficacy prior to getting to the lower intestine for absorbtion.
i've posed many more questions than i've answered so i'll go now
