I was on Risperdal (1mg) for 10 days and on Abilify for 7 weeks (10mg). During this time period I suffered a lot. Besides anxiety and restlessness I had sometimes rapid movement of my arm and leg muscles. Back then I was asking my doctor's if there are any longterm effect's and if my side effect's are normal. They said no, everything will be fine. After reading a lot of threads I found out that this rapid movement is caused by brain damage... Is that true and do I have to fear any long lasting effects? Right now I don't have the negative effect's anymore, but I am still curious if damage is showing up some day. I was on antipsychotics for 2 months and am cleared now, after lowering the doses in that time period.

Very rare, and i 'm not even sure if it applies to abilify, but most neuroleptics such as Tercian (cyamemaine)... a popular one here can cause involuntary muscle spasms, these often happen to your tongue IME, causes huge discomfort, and prevents you from talking properly... these spasms, i have read, are triggered mainly by stress, and if you've experienced them on a neuroleptic at some point, it can come back randomly at "any" time, usually triggered by stress even if you are not on neuroleptics anymore, allthough this is very very rare....

That being said, i consider Abilify a very "soft neuroleptic", and i don't think is in the same category as risperdal or Tercian, so, eeeerm dunno really...

my 2 cents
