I just moved to Austin for my music, I want to go on the streets for a while and learn how to survive just off my music. I'm a fucking stoner and want the life of a chill musician. I'd like some imput on what you think. And tips for the streets. I have an electric guitar and a portable amp. Their like my best friends :). I'm going to write down the experience and post it on here. I'm going to say now before I go, I don't care if your not chasing your dreams, but i'm going after mine!

BTW, My voice is horrible, can a stoner guitarist make it on his guitar alone?

You'll be like that guy I always see on the way to work, he's no superstar but gets some spare change and a toke on my spliff when I see him!
 
I wouldn't recommend homelessness, but Austin's a fairly chill and accommodating city with plenty of pot. If you do go the way of homelessness, Austin isn't the worst place for it. There's a ton of green space and people often camp in the woods off (far off) the trails. It also only freezes here occasionally, very few homeless people freeze to death living here. Try the Zilker park area (near barton springs) if you want to find more homeless guitar players who can't sing.

I think you might find the reality of homelessness a bit less attractive then your ideas about it. Coupled with the fact that you will not get any recognition as a homeless guitar player with a bad voice.

If you want recognition, get a job and get involved in the music scene and practice. Then try and get gigs, it's a lot easier to get actual gigs and shit if you don't have to spend your days spangeing on SoCo (south Congress) and the drag (guadalupe st. by UT campus). Also beware the drag, a lot of homeless guys hang out there but they're a bunch of asshole junkies and the cops frequent the area.

It's not, or at least I don't think it is either. OP, you are new, but usually we don't keep threads open that aren't about cannabis in particular --- I'm going to close this thread, but maybe posting in the North and South America regional discussion may be of use to you? Essentially, I'm not sure where this belongs, but I agree with Sega that here is not the place.
