Poetry 6:44am

[Jabberwocky]

6:44am
I snap to
randomly slaughtered in the night
the voices in my head start talking
the bugs in my legs start crawling
silence
then I kick out of bed
as the alarm clock screams in my face
there is a fire outside my window
I grab my phone and stumble
to the bathroom
holding my head,
it's pain, my loss,
I'm hounded by my cat
clawing and gnawing at my nakedness
because he knows I'm helpless
stranded on the toilet.

6:55am
I hear people yelling outside
as I pull up my stinky underwear
flush the toilet
the cat is clawing at a bug in the rug
destroy the vermin
destroy it all
I step over my cat's murder scene
then make a pot of coffee
watching the asteroids burning in the sky
raining down huge explosions
all over the tiny people.

7:01am
There is open and unpunished rape in the streets
The sun has become a dark red and burns the skin
The ground rumbles and superman is doused in kryptonite
People are flailing around in the street on fire
I can see the wave coming so fast I--

8:00am
My alarm clock announces reality and I jolt awake
I sigh and roll over, thinking
that was a nice dream
