Hiya,

I put a thread up here last year - so I hope no none minds me putting this up.

My daughter n I are doing the 5k Race4Life to try n raise money for Cancer Research, Uk, on 7 June. This will be my fourth year of doing this, second time with little un. I originally did it to get fit but in October 2011, I found out that my friend, Lewis, had died of cancer. We had been friends through college, uni, work n I lost touch with him for two years as had to change all contact details, so never had to say
Goodbye to my friend - so I'm doing this for him also.

Just taken lilvibe with her sponsor form n her practising saying "cancer Research, UK" she's well cute bless her. I can imagine two things happening - she'll lose the form or forget to ask anyone. They get enough off me over the years so hopefully they'll sponsor her lets see lol.

Again, thank you to those of you who have sponsored lilvibe n I. We will be walking 5 k two weeks today. I've bought £60 worth of merchendise because it all helps cancer so hayho. We're very greatful for as it helps a good cause. My mam has recently a friend to cancer. They were very close at one time but haven't really been in touch for a long time due to life's natural events. A few weeks ago her friend was told she only had a few weeks to live n it was her funeral yesterday. She was a very lively woman, with two grown up daughters. I wasn't close to her but remember her once helping me with the pram. It was raining heavily n I didn't know how to put the rain cover up, was panicking n she helped me with it. So if Cancer Research UK can help stop families losing people to cancer the better. Too many people been lost tocancer.

Congrats for doing it Evey. I'll donate. I did the Race for Life 5k myself a couple weeks ago and raised over 80 quid. One of the most rewarding things I've ever done, by far.
 
Spot on. I'm afraid Cancer Research doesn't know what to do with all its money, except pump more of it into pr, whilst other charities are struggling because they're for a less universal problem - people donate to things that have affected them, or appeal to their basest sentimentality (the biggest charity is for old donkey sanctuaries ffs). Less charity, more taxation.

lol, I know the feeling. But we do make slow progress it seems. On the news recently I remember hearing they have come up with breakthrough methods to stop skin cancer. Can't member the details though. I could google them, but like clicking on your youtube links, I can't be bothered.

But certainly, you have to question where all this money is going. Seems we're endlessly funding researchers, who don't really achieve much.
 
I had a new successful cancer treatment that was funded by such money.

Some people here are too cynical by half.

On the other hand, allopathic medicine is looking at things the wrong way to 'cure' cancer. It does need a far more holistic approach. But my treatment would not have come about from normal government funding.
