OK we seem to have lost the recent thread on where to get 5HTP in the recent crash, but for anyone who's interested:
I recently I tried to place an order with Jomar labs, as suggested by a few people, to get some 5htp. I never had the order confirmed (as happened to a few other people), and it even looked like the order hadn't been placed when I pushed the order button. But the bottle showed up last friday as if all were normal... a little bizarre! Took about 2 weeks for them to appear. Wish I'd known before I ordered more from iherb!
Also, as has been mentioned by Mezzed Up, I actually didn't get any invoices from the Gov for stoopid charges... maybe cos I was buying only one bottle? I wonder how they decide, in their bountiful wisdom, who gets charged for what?! hmmm...

Here is a site where i get mine from.

They send it by air mail not air courier so you get no charges at all. Its a liitle more expensive than some other places but it works out cheaper in the end cause you pay no extra charges, delivered to your door in the mail.
I work with couriers and I know that DHL do charge for goods that get inspected by customs or quarantine. I found out today that UPS dont. Just depends on the courier company's policy.

Yep, thanks for the update. I'm buggered if I know what's going on with the customs/quarantine charges issues.
I'd be keen to hear from people in this thread whether they've successfully ordered shipments containing 5-HTP (only) with no difficulties. Perhaps the dramas are resulting from combination orders, or quantities, or random?

Thankfully iherb.com (also they have 5htpdirect.com) have started shipping to Australia again according to some users. They have consistently offered 4x bottles of 60x 100mg capsules for US$60. They stopped shipping to Australia at some time last year, but someone said in the previous thread that they have resumed.
Their website indicates that 5-HTP should be able to be shipped to Australia ok.

If you order from iherb.com, make sure you ask them to use an alternative shipping method to the DHL courier thingy. as praetorian said above, DHL charge the recipient for customs inspections and quarantine.. iherb.com should be quite helpful in this matter as they are aware of the situation.

I get my 5HTP from http://www.clubnatural.com/. They let you choose to get it sent via standard mail to Australia, it arrives in about 10 days.
I've ordered twice and have had no problems with customs and duty and all that.
Also I think their price is pretty good, 4 bottles of 60 caps (100mg) for US $50.
 
a "guy i know" is flying back from overseas in the not too distant future. if he were to have some 5htp in his luggage, and his luggage got searched, is a big hairy man likely to decide to wack on a pair of latex gloves and stick his fingers up "my friends" bottom?
would it be stupid for "my friend" to have, for example, 4 bottles of 5htp in his luggage?
 
The import restriction is 3 month supply at any one time, up to 15 months supply in a year. However, last time I checked there was no recommended daily intake (RDI) value established for 5-HTP so this possibly means there is quite a bit of leeway. However they should be fine with 4 bottles of 5-HTP.

yeah, i found the government line on the issue on the government health website, where they also have huge lists of substances that require approval (which would be quite useful, if i had any clue as to what any of them are!).
according to Dr. Michael T. Murray on 5htp.com...
For depression, weight loss, headaches, and fibromyalgia the dosage should be started at 50 mg three times per day. If the response is inadequate after two weeks, increase the dosage to 100 mg three times per day.
and
For insomnia, I recommend 100 to 300 mg thirty to forty-five minutes before retiring. Start with the lower dose for at least three days before increasing dosage.
so my friend can therefore use the line that 300mg/day is the maximum recommended dosage...

I bought 100 100mg caps @ $65 AU (total inc shipping) from Jomarlabs, it arrived in around 9-10 after ordering..
And they sent me these ultra-cool little stickers on the invoice, that now live on my monitor..
 
well, the stuff I ordered was just 5htp made from jarrow. it was a bottle of 100 caps 100 mg's from Jomar and I didn't get an invoice from customs. The my iherb order, which was 4 bottles, 60 caps 100mg's didn't seem to have an accompanying invoice in yesterday's mail either, so hopefully I'm set!
but iherb did charge $20 US shipping, which may cover a lot of this stuff. I don't think Jomar charged near that much (not that I remember cos technically the order was never placed *boggle*).
oh. I also got cute little stickers on my Jomar package hehehe... a shamrock for st pats I'm guessing, v cute with a wee smile on it's face :)

PS thanks Global for that link, I'd tried to get something into australia last year that happened to have ephedra in it, and had no idea why I was suddenly getting rude notes from customs! They were only herbal diet pills dammit *grin*.
